Unbelievable hypocrisy. Doonesbury the comic strip has publically called for the elimination of all firearms in private hands, and eliminating smokers rights as well. The creators have long advocated the LIEberal leftist agenda for years, but this final one takes the flippin' cake. Just look at the last panel, the Saturday Oct 21st, in case you look at this after the day I post this.

PS, I know I should expect this kind of unadulterated bulltripe from leftists like this, but this one is too blatant to ignore.

I can't make the connection between what I see and what you said. Is this the right comic? I have to think I'm not seeing the same one you saw.

WayneConrad, The writer of Doonesbury and his leftist buddies hate the second amendment (part of the bill of rights) ... so it is ironic that people who don't have any respect for the bill of rights would accuse their opposition of the same.

That would be Hypocrisy.

^^ Ole' Berkely Breathed from Bloom County danced on the other side of gun control too ^^
*** There was a Bllom COunty cartoon posted when I replied to this thread, dunno where it went ***

I re-read nearly the entire Bloom County series a few months ago but this time I picked up on his anti commentary on "assault weapons."

My older brother asserted that Breathed was just writing what social issues were prevelant at that time, an so he must have been as scared of deadly "assault weapons" as any other person ignorant of firearms.
In any case, he didn't know what he what talking about on the gun issue, and even though he often used guns as props in his cartoons, he ceratinbly didn't know what he was drawing.

Your paper still carries Doonesbury?

Around these parts it was booted a couple years ago. Seems constant partisan bickering didn't fit in with the rest of the funny page.

It's on the editorial page here, which works for me. Mallard Fillmore, which is actually less subtle and less funny, is carried on the comics page.

Put him in prison where he will be protected by multiple layers of security from those evil guns and evil corporations.

Prison is where liberals really belong and it fulfills all their dreams about utopia anyway. No guns allowed, no knives allowed, poor inmates don't have to pay income taxes, free housing, free healthcare, free education, free meals, diversity, they can associate with 'political prisoners', when you scream 911 the police REALLY are only seconds away. What else could they want?

I read a different strip which was what I was thinking of at first when I saw this. Must have been earlier since it was set DURING the "press conference." Something along the lines of them pointing out that many more people have died of "gun violence" :barf: than in Iraq, but we aren't spending hundreds of billions of dollars to "combat gun violence" :barf:

How can someone say Mallard Filmore isn't funny?! ;) I want to order a print of the strip on why Kofi Anan is no help around the house:

*scene - Anan with plunger in hand, glaring at toilet*
Anan: I'm WARNING you for the 287th TIME, toilet! You either start flushing or I'm going to have to USE this!!!

:D :D :D

Liberal?

Hi. I am a liberal. I want the death penalty repealed. I am also considering wether to allow tactical nukes for private citizens. Other than that, I think we should have no weapon laws. I am so liberal. Liberal liberal liberal. Aren't I?

Does thinking hurt? Does spouting "liberal" over and over make the hurt go away?

Doug14, you noticed the word "liberal" posted by one person. I think you missed the word "leftist" posted by many. There is a difference.
I consider myself a "liberal" on most issues, but I am certainly not a "leftist".

Wow Doug! Now that's so coincedental it's downright scary. I've just recently been pondering the very same thing!

My only problem is whether it would start an endless debate over whether the .357 kiloton high velocity nuke was more effective than the slower, but heavier .45 kiloton nuke.

Geez.... nothing's ever as simple as you would like it to be, eh?

Decisions, decisions.

Liberal does not mean today what it ment 30 or 40 years ago.

At one time liberal meant open to new ideas and that everyone should be allowed an opinion, things like that now liberal is a 21st century synonym for leftist fascism where the so called liberals want ot control everything and everyone - no more free will or free thought if you smoke in public you are just bad you are a demon - satan himself and you are "hurting the children"!

1984 the novel was about evil right wing fascism but 2008 will be about evil left wing fascism going by the name of liberals!

In the comic, the President doesn't like the Bill of Rights.

That's fine, I don't think the BoR was written to please presidents. The same comic panel would be true no matter who was President. Bill Clinton didn't like the 2d. GWB is not interested in the 2d, but seems to dislike the 4th and 5th. Hillary will hate the 2d and will not like the 1st very much.

If I was president, I'm sure I'd find the BoR annoying, too. You peasants and your so-called rights, sheesh! ;)

Regards.

Tommygunn...

If his politics were of the liberal persuasion, that would be more appropriately let "sleeping dogs lie".

:D

Us and them. Round and round we go. We are all Americans who have differing views on how to make this country a better place.

What is it about urban America that makes them lean so left? What is it about rural America that makes them lean so right? Is it rugged individualism versus interdependant harmonious coexistence?

One way I look at the "us and them" debate is this:
I would fight and even lay down my life to defend what you say even if I disagree with you. Would you do the same for me?

right and left is how you distinguish which hand is which or what way you want to turn...right and wrong is how to distinguish what political or moral position is correct or incorrect...AHEM!!!
