The Ruger P345

I have one and I love it (Don't tell anybody, but I'd rather shoot my P345 than my 1911)
It's comfortable, accurate. and it will eat anything up to and including some of my dad's reloads that are probably 20 years old with semi wadcutters.
The only bad thing i've heard about them is to not dry fire them without a mag in place.
Something to do with the mag safety which I hear is easily removed.
Personally, I think it's a great gun

I wont tell, you are not the first to say that. I did get the gun, still have not shot it yet. I wish the grip was a little thicker, but had the same shape, like the sr9, but i cant wait to shoot it.

The DA trigger is pretty heavy, but it more than makes up for it with the best SA trigger I have ever fired. The P345 was the first non-.22lr pistol I bought and I carried it for about a year. Awesome catty gun. I eventually sold it because I didn't want to own any DA/SA carry guns, and wanted to consolidate my pistol calibers to 9mm.

But it's still an amazing gun.

Worst double action you will ever play with...... until you actually fire a round through it. As much as I wanted to dislike it, I loved it! It was crazy accurate and stayed on target.

Unfortunately, I lost it when I dumped a bunch of guns to buy my motorcycle. I'll get another some day. Mine didn't have a rail like they all do now .... I don't like rails.

The P345 just disappeared from the radar. It was gun of the year when it came out, praised by all the gun writers, including Massad Ayoob. They are comfortable to shoot, and plenty accurate. Don't dry fire without a mag in the gun (search for P345 click no bang).

I have been looking at one where I live and trying to convince my self to get it instead of a Glock 19. I don't really want to add another caliber, but it is a SWEET .45ACP. I may end up with it yet.

The P345 was my first semiauto centerfire handgun, and kinda miss it. As you have found out, the grip can be a little cramped in SA mode, and should fit any little kid that wants to take up shooting.:D
Carefull on reassembly as a recoil spring installed backwards will cause cycling issues, and they like to run wet.

Enjoy!

Now I'm embarassed. My P345 has only 100 rounds through it.
The day we took it out was a bitterly cold winter day and I didn't perform well with it.
After reading all your remarks it deserves another trip to the range.

I'm really attracted to the P345. I find the grip slim and comfortable much like a 1911, and there are no sharp edges on the pistol. Some of the safety features seem like they would be better left off the pistol, but I could work around all of them without much trouble.

The only thing that has kept me from buying one is the magazines seem cheap to me. I'm sure they must be great, since the pistol has an excellent reliability reputation, but if they were the ones that came with my 1911 I'd get some new ones quickly. Unfortunately, nobody makes a better P345 mag than Ruger.

I do find it interesting, the P95 always gets rave reviews about rugged durability, but dinged for chunky ergonomics. On the other hand, the P345 with the same barrel lock up design, but with slim and trim ergonomics addressing the P95's shortfalls, practically never get's mentioned.

Here is a cool video I found during some of my P345 research over the years.
