Mark Tyson, I'm with you; I am *so* sick and tired of hearing about *hunting*, as if that were the only thing that mattered, and of hearing *every* single Donkey Gang politician, from the local to the federal level, continually, robotically repeating the pre-recorded, stuck-record line about how "Oh, I'm all for huntin' and fishin' and sporting goods. But no one needs an AK-47 to go deer hunting." Furthermore, I long ago lost count of the people wearing NRA logo caps and belt buckles who, when approached andasked about it, said they had no problem with banning handguns and "assault weapons," *as long as their *hunting* rifles and shotguns were not affected*.
I personally expect a giant NRA and GOP sellout on the "assault weapon"/normal capacity magazine ban this year. They'll pass their precious lawsuit-immunity ban, and make a *show* of defeating the new, *expanded" semiauto ban by "compromising" and accepting the renewal of the 1994 AWB and letting it become permanent. Then they'll say, "Oh, look at what *could* have happened to you, if *we* hadn't saved you! So now you owe us big-time in votes and money!"
I've said it before but I'll say it again: I am a single-issue voter, and that issue is *not* abortion or gay marriage or flag burning or the Pledge of Allegience or the Ten Commandments or prayerin schools or Janet Jackson's boob flopping out or Iraq or even taxes.
That issue is the preservation/restoration of the right of the *people* (not just people in uniform or on the government payroll) to keep and bear *arms* (as in *weapons* actually useful for fighting -- not sporting goods). And the sunsetting of the AWB is the litmus test. If that ban is renewed or remains in effect one day past its expiration date, due to any action or inaction of Bush II's part, he can just forget about my vote in November. I've had it. I'm fed up. I want that ****ing ban *gone*. Everything else is just background noise to me now.
