So, I finally made enough of the funny green stuff that seems to make life so much easier and fun and got myself something I've always wanted, or at least I started in that general direction.

I had my local gunsmith fit me a CCO sized 1911. It has an ATI 4.25 inch slide and a RIA officer frame. The grips are the thinnest alumagrips I could find. Grainy images here ...

Now, I know this isn't some high-end gun, but at some point it will be exactly what I want.

The next plan is a skinnier grip safety that still has a beaver tail and I will make the slide stop flush with the frame, because I release the gun using the overhand method or boot heel anyways. Also because I think it would look really cool and streamlined.

This thing where you make a gun very specifically for yourself is kinda fun!

Which Smith do you use Nushif? I have Jeff do all my work, and he has done an outstanding job! BTW I really like what you did there, and at the gong price of CCO's, I think that was a great idea!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you better make some more of the green stuff. these things are like Lays Potato Chips, you can't have just one.

Jeff, from Rangemaster Gunworks ordered it and kept the bottom bits for a project. no clue who his distributor is.

Alright! Update.

Here's some classier pictures for your viewing pleasure (basically me playing around with my cell phone camera) and a range report.

We went to the range and I brought 250 rounds of UMC factory ball ammo. When I shot the gun there were no malfunctions. At all. Ejection was .... vigorous, so much so as a matter of fact that I got hit in the head by a lot of ricochets from the ceiling! The gun now has a lot more of a ".45 push" feel to it than before with the very snappy 3.5 inch barrel, so I am a fan.

However, the gun did malfunction four times overall. Every time it was my wife and her "Beretta Hands" shooting it. I am entirely unworried, seeing as she managed jamming Glonk 19s with regularity and pretty much anything other than a Beretta or mousegun she somehow miraculously gets to not work.

In retrospect I should have gone the route of getting myself a gun customized a long time ago. This CCO and the .22 adapter for it will pretty much serve all my shooting needs from this point on. I will (of course) still collect other guns, but I don't really "need" a new pistol at this point.

The only other modifications I can think of at this point that I might want is a WW1 style thumb safety because I like the way they feel and look, a slimmer grip safety and a complete and uniform refinish/lettering removal. but all of that is just icing on the cake.

Easier to modify the GS you have than fitting another. You might consider a new MSH that fits closer to flush with the frame which should make it feel much better in hand. Nice pistol though and I bet priced right. +1 on going the custom route.
