Who makes the Best 1911 and why? I'm in the market for my first 1911 and i was thinking about the Springfield GI, but i'm not sure now. I would like to here your guys thoughts.

I am partial to the Kimbers, as long as you get one with an internal extractor.

I put over 400 rounds through my Pro size yesterday with no problems.

Accurate and reliable, what more can you ask for?

Good Luck, beware the 1911 bug is a dangerous one, you can never have just one.;)

I prefer the Colts. I've had a 1991 that I upgraded into a XSE. I prefer the finish, build quality, reliability & all around good gun attributes they have shown me over the years. I had a couple 1000 rounds through my 1991 & prolly close to 2k in my XSE w/o a single hiccup (outside of the cost of ammo!) ;)

The start of the great debate? Where have you been for the last 95 years?

Mike ;)

You can be assured that, regardless of brand, you may need to "fine" tune a 1911 (especially from the under $1K offerings). I have a Kimber Pro Tac II SE (internal extractor) and it has continued to work, right out of the box, from the beginning. Others, however, have had trouble from shot 1. That goes for Para Ord, Springfield, etc., etc.. I wouldn't worry too much about the Springfield G.I.. If the price is right, and it fits your needs, then go for it.
