I found this while doing a search for tactical pistol shooting vids on youtube and couldn't help but laugh...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsO6BqBvFJw

Personally, I prefer the tactical one-handed back handspring and shoot with the other hand while I'm doing it during engagement, it's a lot harder to pull off and definately looks cooler, if you pull it off the bad guys are likely to think you're either A. a ninja or B. Chuck Norris.... But really, I'm all about training like you would actually fight and incorporating gymnastics is probably not the most effective technique. I have a feeling General Patton would shoot his soldier himself if he saw one of his men rolling around doing somersaults in a firefight. I guess this guy is gonna somersault his way all the way up to the bad guy and roundhouse him. Personally, when bullets are flying, I'm taking cover and putting bullets down range, not doing somersaults on the concrete most likely through broken glass or something... Couldn't help but laugh at this one as it seems they're trying to be serious, like pistol ninjas or something... I mean, do you think the guys at Front Sight are training guys to be doing somersaults during a firefight??? I don't know, maybe I'm just ignorant when it comes to pistol fighting tactics but if I'm hiring a bodyguard and he's firing one shot then busting out somersaults I'm going to be pissed.

So tell me, would any of you do a somersault and risk knocking yourself unconscious by hitting your head on the ground or possibly disorienting yourself and taking that extra second to get on target in a firefight??

Me personally, no. To fat for it, however I would like to see these guys do this in a real situation. First off if I am there to do harm to you, I am not going to give you the opportunity to even draw that gun let alone Steven Segal yourself within spitting distance of me. I saw some more of these vids and I got to thinking.......These guys take movies way to serious. If I was the bad dude and you was rollin around on the ground I would just pop a cap while you were down.

I agree one hundred percent, if you walked in to front sight and did this in front of an instructor they'd probably escort you off the premises... In the comments someone asked "why the roll?", the posters reply was "Moving targets are harder to hit than stationary targets; real world if someone is shooting at you move! The roll is another method of moving to cover while making yourself a smaller target. It increases heart rate, make you sweat etc. which simulates the body's stress reactions. We run these drills with trusted personnel, which means they are 100% safe. If people can not confidently complete tactical drills without fear of accidental discharges they should not be carrying weapons operationally."

Well, if it's just for training, whatever, I don't see why you'd train doing something you wouldn't do in a real firefight b/c in that situation you react on instinct and do what you've practiced so if you've practiced doing cartwheels, you'll probably be doing cartwheels when the lead starts flying. Personally, if the other guy rolling around doing somersaults, I'm either going to flank him when he's mid roll so he can't see me or retreat.

I remember learning how to do that in 6th grade PE class, just without the Glock. Looks like a lot more fun with the gun though. In PE I think my teacher called it the ninja roll.

The inherent problem is the person doing the roll is blinded temporarily as his head faces down and backwards. He must then reacquire the target (which may have moved while he was blinded) and fire before the person gets a bead on him. Now granted, if you have concealment for your roll, it may work. But out in the open, no way. If a person flanks the roller while he does the roll, the roller comes up in a position that is incredibly awkward to shoot in any direction but forwards. Effectively you're losing flexibility and rapid follow up shots. This is a good way to get yourself killed. Companies should NOT be teaching this crap. It doesn't work and can get someone killed when the proper response is to simply move or stand and fire.

i have seen stupid before
and i am sure there will be more in the future

and people pay $$ for this.........

what Mike says and his muzzle control-----is there anything he does not sweep??
forget 180; i think he broke the rule of 540

perhaps related to the silly class pictures of last year that got edited?

Gives me five seconds of free shooting while the b/g is rolling around unable see any thing. Go ahead and roll , No "Kings X" in a gunfight ,I'll shoot you in the back, ass, feet and every thing else you present to me. Plain dumb :what:

Hold on, I wanna get some popcorn. And a big bib for when I spit my drink all over myself from laughing. :D

The Ninja roll was featured prominently in that movie, "SWAT" during the training shootoff scene.

I think if anyone tried that at the range, the DI would just tell him to do it again and kick him in the head as he tucked into a roll.

Hey this is a maneuver that every UberTactiCool Mall Ninja must have in his arsenal of super sweet moves.

This really looks like a good way to get shot in the buttocks or crotch as a best case scenario.

It might make your adversary laugh uncontrollably giving you the upper hand.

They also made fun of it:

McCabe: What? No roll, Hondo?
Hondo: How do you know I didn't?
McCabe: You didn't, did you?
Hondo: They only roll in John Woo movies, not in real life.

Samuel L. Jackson is the man :p

Yep, McCabe did the roll and also the patented "Benedict Arnold" but at least he didn't miss his head when he took his final shot of his career.

I like how he is in the "wide-open", has no cover, and has stopped to fire. Too, note how long it takes him to acquire his target for a single-tap.

Right...what a fool. Stationary targets are easy targets. Someone should tell him that stop, drop and roll is for when your pants are on fire.

In a situation, to aggressively seek cover, i.e.; UNDER FIRE I could see doing a dive even if on concrete if it got you as quickly to cover as possible. I imagine it would be hard shooting a man flying a short distance in mid air, before he gets behind any sort of cover, but this is just ridiculous. I don't know how many differant people were filmed doing this, but at least one of the guys was not putting on his safety and it didn't look like his grip changed at all, like his finger was on the trigger. Smart move to roll around like that, you might save the opposition the trouble and shoot yourself. I think the only 'contact' these knuckleheads would feel in a real engagement would be mr slug meeting their ass-end

It would just be better to take another 3-4 shots than try something like that. However if I tried that it would be a move for cover no just reposition inside the BGs line of fire. But that's just me.

I am not a navy seal, tactical ninja, or mall cop, but it seems to me that in the time from his first shot to his second shot, he could have put a whole magazine of ammo into the target if he would just shoot like a normal person.

I’ve done rolls like that in a combat class.

It was an Aikido class.:neener: It is a great way to come out of a throw or a fall without breaking stuff. In a gunfight can’t see that it would be much use unless you tripped on the way to cover.

Of course I am not just going to stand in open throwing lead down range that seems like a great way to get shot as well. Crouch or hit the dirt. Something other than just standing there waiting to be shot while you are still trying to acquire a target. Best yet find nice solid object to hide behind

One thing to consider we are seeing the training without context. Maybe this is the section of the class “What Not to Do”. It also could be just the instructors doing the stunt for a promo video because it looks cool.

well I posted a comment or two making fun of him, telling him how ridiculous it is, asking why they don't train as if they were in a gunfight so you fall back on instinct and your training, not gymnastics class. Also told him if he did this at Front Site they'd give him the boot and apparently he's been deleting my comments b/c they don't show up. Apparently he doesn't want to take on the argument that this is good training.... Anyone can do a somersault, a backflip would have been a lot more impressive. What you should here is, "Contact! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!Bang! "
