wow take off for a while and people start a coming welcome aboard everyone. welcome to the finest here club on THR

Nevermind mykeal I got it. Is the wedge always that tough to get out?
I assume that was the latest part of your post and that the wedge is now out. No, it's not always that difficult - it gets easier with wear and practice.

i carry a screw driver with me all the time. after shooting i grab the screw driver and give the barrel a slight whack at the mouth hitting down with the plastic part of the handle. as it always seems the barrel wants to move forward causing the wedge to be tighter. after that just give the wedge a good whack. it should come out. they do get easier after time. my pietta i can get it out without any tools. amazingly it seems a little loose but is soooo soooo accurate.

Thanks for help help guys, much appreciated. I did get it out and gave her a little cleaning and put some anti sieze on the nipples. Hope to shoot her this weekend. Gun looks like it was hardly ever fired. Also looks well taken care of. IMHO not a bad deal for $249!! Happy to be part of the WALKER club.

shoot for that price i would have bought it in a mili second. make sure you post the results. if you have any problems at all post results.

WOW!

Took the Walker out for the first time today and all I can say is wow! :what: I load my 58 Remington NMA with 25 grains of fffg. Loaded the the Walker with 50 grains of fffg, a lube wad and 457 ball. The whole time I'm feelin bad cause the Remmy ain't gonna get much range time any more. Only shot at some cans and bottles I did seem fairly accurate. I'll have to get the targets out next nice day and see what she can do.

Got her all cleaned up tonight and I'm gonna take her to my brother-in-laws on Thanksgiving. Trust me my B-I-L and his neighbors will all want one after they shoot this thing.

If that gun was a woman I'd ask her to marry me on the spot! :p

Quickdraw, i feel the same way about my walker. I have one gripe with it i sure burn up a lot of powder shooting it.

Mike

That's about the only reason I see to shoot the Remy and not the Walker!

later on you got to get an R&D Conversion Cylinder. Those things are so cool. i load upto 55 grains in the walker. then put in 6 rounds of 45 Colt in her. So i can shoot either one. its is soo cool. They do shoot a little high at anywhere around 10-20 yards. At 75 and 100 yards i aim right on target. Yes i have shot steel at 100 yards with my walker. pretty impressive

Yes I awant to get one of those but my next item is an AR. Just in case the Dem's decide they know whats best for us law abiding gun owners!

Wedge Removal Mallet/Snaggletooth's

About getting wedges out. I make these little mallets and have given half dozen to friends. They all use them and say that they are very handy. I use a piece of 11/2dowel for the hammer and3/8 or 1/2 for the handle. The leather caps are from an old leather belt I bought for .25 in a thrift shop. I used car. penters glue to put it on and this is the best way Ive found to get out wedges. If they are really stuck I slap them 2 or 3 times. Its easy to carry in the shooting bag also.

Snaggletooth

I made a hammer similar to the one snaggletooth makes, I drill the head of the hammer and epoxy in some soft lead. then add the leather ends. Just takes a light tap.

My new-to-me, previously unfired Colt Walker ASM was broke in yesterday - first shot, hit a pail at 30 yards. 60gr. 777, remington #10, .451, prelubed punched cotton .44 patch.

on shot 4, a fragment of the remington cap when between the cyl and hammer area -- locking it up until I tapped the wedge out. Thankfully that was 3 of only 3 loaded on the second round...

I'm new to the forum today. I've built black powder arms since the age of 12 (in the 70's) -- it is the love of my shooting life. Colt did a marvelous thing 161 years ago with this one... Thank you to ASM for copying it and improving on it with modern proofing. A well built gun, despite the cap lodging...

Has that happened to anyone else? ways to prevent?

I would like to join.
Here are some pictures of my Uberti walker and the home I made for it.
I also have some questions about casting conical bullets for it.
I have about 20 lbs. pure lead and also have a 25 lb bag of lawrence chilled shot. I really dont want the lead shot to go to waste.
Any thoughts on mixing the two or how to make the shot softer?
or should I just cast it anyway?
here is a small pic of my play room.

It's happened to all of us, and still does.

Prevention is usually learning the 'gunfighter flip': after the round fires and you complete your follow through, raise the muzzle while simultaneously rotating the gun to the right and cocking the hammer for the next shot. The cap should fall clear when the muzzle reaches the 45 degree up point. Be careful to keep the muzzle pointed downrange as you rotate it. This maneuver takes a great deal of practice to get right, but once it is, it works. It'll be awkward as hell the first few dozen times, however, especially with the Walker.

Damn!!!! I haven't been on here in so long I have to learn my way around all over again!
Scrat, Old Fuff, Bigbadgun, MyKeal, and all of the rest. A very warm hello to all of you. I have really missed ya'll. I guess I'm up and running now for a couple of hours every day or two anyway. Would have been up sooner but my dish got blown down three different times. Yeah, for real.

I'vd got to get Bigbadgun to make a couple of holsters for me now that I'm up and operating again. Plus I see I have many messages I need to read and reply to.
I have really missed the hell out of this site.
I'vd got 14 Antelope standing right out side of my window right now about 25 to 30 yards away. I'm not going to bother them.
Well, just wanted to let ya'll know I'm up again.I will be checking in at least every other day....
