Went to the range today and shot the Walker. Steel 8" plate at 50 yards, bowling pins at 50 + yards, and steel plate approx 14" at 125 yards, no problem. Two liter water bottle, filled, at 7 yards, great fun. It sure is a pig when it comes to powder. You can put lipstick on it, but it's still a Walker.

Looking to sign up. Got me an ASM & Uberti Walker. I will post pictures when I get some made.

Figured since I'm wasting my Sunday on the confuser, might's well throw some related stuff on the kitchen table, take a pic and get with the program:
MVC-030F-1.jpg
Walker's from CVA (ASM), Dragoon's a Uberti. Sticker's from DGW. Made the holsters.

Add me to the WALKER club. I have a recent production Uberti Walker that I am in the process of antiquing, an unfired Colt 2nd Generation Walker, an unfired 2nd Generation Colt 1st Model Dragoon, and a Uberti 7th Cavalry Model P 45 Long Colt. Rounding out the old west is my 1886 Winchester Take Down in 45-70, a Pedersoli Sharps Long Range No.3 in 45-70, and a .54 Hawken with 35 inch bbl. I will try to get a "family photo" and post it soon.

Until then here is a comparison between the Uberti Walker and my Smith & Wesson Model 25 45 Colt with 8 3/8 bbl and unfluted cylinder.

wow a year later 886 post, 62 members and one of the most read threads on black powder shooting. WOW who would have known

Tmc wow those pics are soooo cool. get an r&D cylinder for your walker its a drop in cylinder. It will allow you to shoot 45 colt out of the walker as well

Scrat,

Thanks for the comments. I need to do a little more research on the R&D cylinders. With the "drop in" don't you have to remove the cylinder each time to unload and load it? The only other way would be to grind the recoil shield down to allow a cartridge to be inserted from the rear - correct? I may have to get another Uberti Walker to convert in this manner and if I do, I will also add a Dragoon loading lever latch to the front end and take care of that issue. I also made a post regarding the use of faucet O Rings to hold the lever up for a quick fix. Not authentic by any means but they work.

Ya forgot me on the list. Since getting the Walker, I have also added a Pietta 1851 Navy, and an Uberti 1849 Pocket. Will post pictures soon.

Yep the R&D cylinder you have to remove it each time to load it. If you wanted to load it in the gun you have to go with the kirsk. The r&d though is a drop in cylinder. the timing and everything is right on specs. Load it with 45colt and drop it in. If you wanted a loading gate you would have to get a kirst then take it to a gunsmith as it would have to be ported reblued. Im not tooo crazy about that. I didnt really want to modify my Walker. Hate to say it but thats why i just bought an 1858. So i can have a kirst convertor with loading gate installed. then i wouldnt really care to much. But my Walker well thats my baby.

Scrat,

Is there anyway to make "The Official THR Walker Club" a main topic since it has become so popular? Or, at least have it permanently fixed at the top of the Blackpowder page? The Colt Walker was a remarkable advance for its time with a unique history and all of this discussion and the "club" now forming here at THR is long overdue.

Hildo,

On page 2 of this discussion you posted pics of your antiqued Walker which is the best I have seen yet. Would you mind sharing your process and how you arrived at this final look? Your Walker looks fantastic.

I'm hooked, and comin' aboard, I just found and paid for one off GB. It was a kit the guy never finished and I'm gonna antique it once it arrives, add my name to the list of converts. If you're gonna own a dog, it might as well be the biggest and baddest dog on the block!! I will admit though, my Rogers & Spencer will always be the apple of my eye!!

hahahahaa you guys crack me up. It is the biggest baddest gun though. We would have to talk to Garry about putting it up on top. He might go for it. For sure it is a gun you need to own to really get the feel of what black powder shooting is though. I think Garry should start getting us shirts. THR WALKER CLUB

I was sitting here reading the back pages of this thread and you know there is some really good info here. I think this should be a sticky.
The more people read about this hog leg the more people buy them. And that in turn brings new people to our sport and (stimulates the economy).
And that is what we are supposed to do right. Hmm just think the economy stimulated by a bunch of gun purchases. (a democrates worst nightmare)

The Biggest and the Smallest Percussion Revolvers

I am proud to own the largest and smallest production percussion revolvers. The Colt Signature Series Walker and the Freedom Arms Mini Revolver.
