I had not noticed before that my walker has the serial number on nearly every major part. Interesting how you notice that after years of ownership.

MadCrateBuilder...That little, look's like a .31, at the top; is that the model everybody came to refer to as the 'Well's Fargo Model', that wasn't very popular because it didn't come with the loading lever mounted; and then the one followed that we refer to today as simply the '49?..(of which I own a couple)....

Finally got to shoot my Walkers
Been reading here for a few months. Learning alot about the different Walkers. I have 2 of them. One is a Uberti, the other I assume is a ASM because it isn't put together anywhere as nice as the Uberti. Never the less they both shot well at targets 30 yards out. As stated they both shot high. A slight adjustment and they were right on. As we've all enjoyed, between the flame and the boom the Walkers had every ones attention at the range. Tis fun to be the center of attention. KA-BOOM on! More adventures to come!

Ive got one from ASM built in 1972, still in darn fine shape and accurate as heck to boot. Have it shown next to my 1858 New Model .36 Remington police cap and ball (they don't replicate that one yet) Both are a hoot to shoot, the Walker with 50gr of 777 and the Remmy with 15gr of Pyrodex P. Have another photo of ot with my 1989 ASM 1860 Army. Why people say they are not finished well is beyond me, or perhaps it is just the luck of the draw. Both have washed out the finish on the Walker due to the flash, you would be hard pressed by these photos to tell the cylinder on the Walker is in the white and the barrel has be de-farbed. Each part also has a serial number on, loading lever, wedge, all but the screws.

Red, that ASM is one of the best finishes I have seen on one, it's a very nice finish, I wish my ASM dragoon was as nice.

Scrat, technicaly it is the largest BP revolver, not hand gun. There were plenty of single shot handguns that could and did handle a larger BP load. Just a clarification.

Wheelin and dealin today
Hey guys...and gals..if any are viewing....Pretty excited..traded my Pietta Hartford .44 Sherrifs model and an old Hawes 51 Navy style .44 today for a new Walker with conversion cylinder included!
I traded with a guy at work that I got started in BP...He saw my Walker, and decided he needed one, and bought a conversion cylinder with it (Kirst), and did a pretty good job of dremmilin the recoil shield to accept the cartridges.
I brought it home, stripped it, bbl and cylinder were spotless, but the innards were pretty dirty and fouled. Found out the the small leg of the b/t spring was broke, but still functions very good. Will order a new one from DGW Monday.
I've allways wanted a brace of Walkers..Now..Finally...Have em!
Gonna start gettin into reloadin now... Didnt mean to ramble on, but like I said, I'm pretty excited!

finally shot the cannon
so ive had my walker since December and haven't had a chance to shoot it since indoor ranges dont allow BP guns. So today i just went down to the creek and shot my walker. i went out and got to a good spot, loaded up and it started pouring. so i decided to wait it out and it didnt stop. so i just shot my six and came home and by the time i got home of course it stopped raining so i just turned on Lonesome Dove and cleaned my walker. I was shooting at some plastic bottles and only hit the dirt beneath them to make them jump like i hit them because there werent any holes in the bottles when i cleaned up.
this is my dirty walker only 6 rounds fired.
and then here it is disassembled for cleaning
I really enjoyed shooting it and more will come for sure. It really felt like history coming alive.
Maybe a range report on an actual target next time and more than just one cylinder.
I only loaded about 42gr maybe 60 next time. Also the action was pretty tight and bound up a bit probably because its brand new and needs to be shot more and needed a better precleaning than what I gave it. Now I need to start looking for a holster. Also the 454 balls I have didn't leave quite the ring that they do on my 58 Remmy so next will be 457 balls

does anybody have any pics of their walkers in leather? i know that of this many walkers, somebody has to have a holster. im thinking about a holster and wanna see what you guys tote yours around in for some ideas.

My Colt Walker
I got into bidding on a Uberti 147 Colt Walker last week on Gun Buyer.. It was used but looked to be in great shape, plus the seller had a good history, so for $296.00 I bought the Walker.
This morning UPS delivered and I took her down real quick like to see what I had gotten.
A few minor scratches on some screws. She has been fired but cleaned up nicely afterwards. Great shape considering that she has a CB Marking indicating 2007 as a manufacture date. Someone took care of her.
She is no virgin though. In addition to the screw driver marks in one location there is some fouling on the cylinder. The rest of the weapon looks brand new. I'd say some shot her very little and used some medium size loads.
I asked the Seller if they had a Nipple Wrench and the answer was no. I asked how they cleaned the nipples? She replied with a tooth brush. So I had bought a Walker Nipple wrench and when she arrived I took the nipples off. Except for some minor fouling they were in great shape.
This weekend she is going to get a complete disassembly and a good cleaning. I bought a Nipple wrench from Taylors, listed as 1012 Hardened and it makes the Walker Wrench look sick, as far as ease of use. I also bought a complete set of screws from another seller. Just in case they were needed.
So far so good. I got my Walker.

For those who are interested there is a "Horse Pistol Revolver Challenge" going on over on The Muzzleloading Forum. The match is postal, meaning you shoot your targets and send them to the sponsor for scoring. It involves Walkers and Dragoons; one target at 10 yards, five shots, single hand hold (duelist), then one target at 25 yards, five shots, single or two hand hold. One entry per person. I'm going to shoot all 4 of my horse pistols and submit the best set, but I'll post the two Dragoon targets here.

i am planning on a muzzleloader(flintlock rifle) bear hunt here in arkansas. i can only use a blackpowder pistol as back up to the rifle. seriously thought about the walker for a back up, but by the time i walk up and down two miles of mountains my left side would be dragging the barrel in the dirt!....i still want to get one though just to have.

Just made a post but I think it got lost, so basically I'll just say it again...I stated on a post here that I'd traded a .338 Win Mag for a new Uberti Walker and some other stuff. I turned the Walker in last week to a good friend of mine who is a fine gunsmith. He has done very extensive (and expensive) work for me in the past. He is tuning up the Walker for me. Polishing and hardening the internals and setting the trigger pull and little stuff like that. I'll pick it up next week. I haven't shot it and don't plan on shooting it but I'm sitting here missing it anyway. I don't like for any of my firearms to be away from me. He is a handicapped former U.S. Marine who served with me way back in the 'nam. He got blown up pretty bad back then and is mostly confined to a wheelchair but besides being a close and very dear friend he is one of the finest gunsmiths I have ever even heard of. He went to a long hard school for it to. He dosen't need to work but he will do it for his friends. (He and his wife are a lot like me. They don't call many people friends)..Anyway, just sitting here thinking about he and his wife and what wonderful friends they have been to me over these long years. I'll pick the Walker up next week. I don't have to be there to watch him do anything with it. I KNOW that when he hand's it to me that sonofab**** will be absolutely perfect. (I keep my guns in good shape. Clean and oiled and ready to go to hell and back. My guns are working guns. Used to be working guns anyway. I'm getting a little older now and don't prowl the tall and uncut like I used to)..I probably won't ever shoot it but I still miss it and will be glad when I get it back..PS. I have either not posted ANY pictures here or about 4. If a lot of them come up I'll see tomorrow if I can remove 3 of them. The site is not working right. That is my third Walker I just got for the .338 that the gunsmith has right now. These are the 2 I'vd had for years and years although one of them has never been loaded or fired. I keep it as a spare. Now I will have 2 spares....

Got that Walker back about an hour and a half ago. That Walker is good to just like I knew it would be. Action on that thing is as slick and smooth as glass. All of my guns are like that because he worked on each one of them. He really did a heavy duty job on each one of my '58's (including the stainless) and Cattleman's Carbines. (Expensive as all hell to. Had to finance the work on those '58's and Carbines just like I was financing a new pickup truck even with the breaks he gave me) but this is the Walker Club so I won't talk about them, but he also did my '49's in the same manner as he done my other 2 Walkers. Well, the old man here is relaxed and happy again. Good people there. REAL fine folks....
PS.Almost forgot. He sent me an extra hammer to, all tempered up good and all (no charge) just like he done for each one of the others. ( I haven't put any of the hammers on. I might one of these days. Just haven't felt the call to yet. May never) The hammers are the same except for the part where you hook your thumb to draw it back to battery. It is a little wider with the lines serrated into it. Very easy to grip and it will rock back to full battery seemingly on it's own, but hell, my guns do that anyway.
