Hello All,
Just got a Uberti Walker and love it, my 1st Colt. Cleaning, I was surprised to find cap flakes down inside on top of the trigger gard. Historicaly, they used to give a flick to the right as they cocked, called the "Colt shake" to help keep the action clear of the remnants of the caps. I see now what they were talking about.
Two questions; when might a Uberti serial #A49504 have been made, and suggestions for a civil war style holster?

Serial numbers are not used to date Italian replica revolvers. They use a date code which consists generally of two capital letters inside a square. Uberti normally puts this code on the right side of the frame above the trigger. The decoder ring is:

Regarding a 'Civil War style' holster: the Walker was not carried in a belt holster, nor was it used in the Civil War. It was intended to be carried in a saddle, or pommel, holster. As you know by now, it's a very heavy gun. A belt holster stout enough and large enough for the 9" barrel is not widely available. It should be made of horse leather, rather than the typical cow leather, in order to be strong enough to withstand the heavy weight. And you will need a very thick, stiff belt to hang it on as well. I'm not aware of any off the shelf holsters that are adequate for a Walker, so I'd recommend you have one custom made, along with a belt.

Here's two for you. The first is on eBay and I kind of like the looks of this one. The second is on GunBroker and is the one I bought a few months ago.

The GB one fits both my Walker and Dragoon, it ain't pretty but it does the job. I've used this one on horseback (okay, it was muleback) up in Griz country this summer. BP wasn't my first choice but it was the biggest gun I had available. I wouldn't want to hike around too much with a Walker on my hip but wasn't bad riding with it.

Even on 8mm movie film, the gun would often go off between film frames. I came up with using a still camera at dusk, set to take a one second exposure. I'd listen for the shutter to open, the fire. Worked pretty well!

Madison Import Corp. 1847 Walker

I just acquired an 1847 Walker with "MADISON IMPORT CORP." on the left side of the barrel flat above the barrel wedge. It was manufactured by Armi San Marco. This is a new marking that I had never seen in my 18yrs of researching and collecting replica revolvers. This raises the total of identified importers who marked their guns to 59. Wonder what will show up tomorrow?

Luck still plays an important role! Even nowadays with top of the notch digital camcorders it can be quite a fuss to catch the flash because most of the time they record interlaced video and actually it isn't 30 consecutive frames which are shot in a second but 15 with horizontal lines starting line A +15 with horizontal lines starting line B. You just need the slightest delay between the shutter of the camcorder and the ignition of the charge and you'll end with loads of smoke but no flash on your picture.

Yesterday's results. 25 meters, MLAIC rules (one hand, extended arm). Very, very heavy rain. The other shooters at the range cursed me 'cause the smoke was lingering so long that after three shots you could hardly see the targets !
The global group is slightly to the right but this come from my adopting a new hand position on the grip. So this new position I've recently adopted allows me to tighten the groups quite a bit but to the right. As the same thing is happening also with my SAA and my Remington 1858, I guess I'll need to improve that somehow.

Just pivot your body to the left a bit and that should center your otherwise good group.

Guess I will have to apply for membership to the THR WALKER CLUB. Finally dropped enough hints and darn nearly had to resort to outright begging but I have my Walker on the way, should be here by Thursday, Friday at the latest. Feel like a kid that can't sleep on Christmas eve waiting for Santa to come visit.

So, the flash capture struggle goes on! Guess that's why there's now a cottage industry in Hollywood adding computer-generated muzzle flashes, especially to full auto guns. You can stand on the set and be darn near blinded as an actor blazes away, firing blanks sometimes laced with magnesium to increase the flash, only to be disappointed when you screen the dailies, where you see nothing but shell cases flying and wimpy puffs of smoke!

Posted this in the main body but had to put mine in with all the fine examples. Picked it up from a fellow THR member and I could not be happier. Rig was made by BBG which is a work of art in and of itself.

Mykeal is quite right about Walkers not being a profound carry Revolver in the War Between the States. But they were carried fewer though because of the newer 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Model Dragoons...they were more desired and a bit easier on the belt ...
I don't know if I can post a link to Dixie Gun Works or not but they have a Mexican Style Loop Holster, a CW Flap Holster , and the Slim Jim walker Holsters.

Been reading the posts for a while and finally making the move to join...
I have been a fan of the Walker Colt since before I 1st got into reenacting Civil War in 1976.
Currently have 10 Walker replicas and always looking to add to the collection.

Do not do Civil War any more but Old West. Love to use a Walker conversion that I have for the post Civil War events..Defarbed and company marked...
