Since it's my spring break, I went off to Wally-world yesterday to check out some of their rifle slings and realized I would have time to drive to my range (about an hour away) before dark. I had my Marlin 60 and Nagant with me, so I figured I'd give it a try. Now, I've been waiting for quite a while for my Saiga .308 to arrive and have been about as patient as a crack fiend waiting to get his next fix. I figured I could 'cool the fire' buy getting some fun little toy to appease me, so I picked up a $7 daisy 4x15 air rifle scope for the .22.

Man, I forgot how much fun a little scoped .22 can be. I duct-taped some some cans to the target holders at the range at 75 yrds and screwed that scope on, as if the earth's rotation about the sun would speed up at any moment and get me kicked out. After getting the scope zeroed, it was a blast. Ran through about 80 rnds in one box of ammo, and opened up a fresh pack of 550.

But then it happened. I knew I needed to be leaving, but my hand just kept reaching into that box for more ammo after my slide locked open. And then my other hand kept opening up the tube mag. Every single tube-full of ammo became 'my last for the day, then I'll go'. But it wasn't my last. I ran through that whole box of ammo. All of it. Over 600 rnds in total.

I'm actually a little afraid to go back now. I now know how the heroine addict feels every day of their life. I guess I'll have to limit myself by only bringing small amounts of ammo...

But hey, ammo is cheap right? By the brick even. And it's good meditation time, much cheaper than therapy. I really do need to hone my rifle skills, too. Most of all, those smug soda cans have been smirking at me all morning from the garbage can, thinking they're so great...

Well I'll show them, I'm brining TWO bricks of ammo next time...

 :what:

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. Oops, I mean scoped .22's. I was looking at that guy drinking a beer and accidentally said beer. Man, I hope that doesn't get misquoted." - Ben Franklin, a man with enough foresight to envision self-loading firearms using rimfire cartridges and telescopic sights.

The way I see it, your Nagant must be pretty jealous, what with getting her all dressed up, taking her out to the range and letting her sit there without firing a shot! . I think you know what you must do in order to make it right by her......

I've killed a fair number of tin cans in my time, along with their cohorts: Comrade Plastic Coke Bottle, Mr Pumpkin, and Herr Milk Jug.

Ain't much that's funner than a Marlin 60 and a brick of .22lr. ;)

I prefer a cheap red-dot to a cheap scope, though.
