Long story short, I am going to pull a 'quid pro quo' with the wife, and get 'permission' to buy an expensive handgun. She is getting "work done," and, of course, if she gets that then it is real easy to argue for a new addition to the family.

Here are the three FINAL choices. I am going to take a poll, and I'd like to hear your comments. I'm really up in the air on this choice.

Gun #1: Smith and Wesson Stealth Hunter. 44 Magnum.

Gun #2: Colt Special Government 1911. 45 ACP.

Gun #3: Sig Sauer P220 Stainless Elite. 45 ACP.

It really boils down to intended use. If hunting, then the S&W, but if concealed carry, the Colt or Sig. Between the Colt and Sig, I personally would opt for the Colt.

I would vote for a 1911 but not a Colt Special Combat. Are you dead set on that gun or do you want a 1911 and are thinking about a Colt? There is a better value at the same price for essentially every Colt 1911 out there.

The choice is between S&W and the SIG. For hunting & HD the S&W for SD, CCW, HD the SIG.

I know that a lot of people (and I am one of them for most purchases) tend to look to value for guns. This is purely a vanity purchase, and I have the money to make a high-dollar gun purchase. If I go with a 1911, then I'm going to want the Real McCoy. If there's another Colt option, then I'm all ears. But, I'm not interested in a Ruger SR1911, Rock Island, etc. I might consider a Sig or Smith 1911 at a later date for another "vanity purchase," but not today. If I get a 1911, it's going to be a Colt.

I'm semi auto poor and am in the market for another .44 Magnum; I'd take the Smith.

If I were shopping for a high end 1911 I'd look for an Ed Brown or a Les Baer.

S&W custom shop guns are not all they are cracked up to be. I have seen way too many go back to the factory from one issue or another. The SIG will hold it's value extremely well and is head and shoulders above the colt for quality of build. Plus SIG doesnt ignore civilian customers like Colt does.

If I understand correctly, your wife is "getting work done" AND you get a new high ticket gun?

I think we call that

WIN>WIN? :what:

I have the CCW firearms covered, but I would love to have a 44 for hunting purposes. I would probably go with the Smith or some other revolver for hunting.

I would get the Sig over the Colt 80's ser.
I'm not fan of newer Smiths, I'd look for a older 29 myself.

Only one I could even slightly consider is the Sig, but we just have very different tastes in firearms. Good luck & enjoy what ever you get!

I really love 1911's, but feel that Colt's are just over priced fro what you get, mostly a name. I also have a P220 and really love it, it is my favorite gun out of the 30+ I own. A revolver is a completely different animal, but everyone should own at least one.
