The versatile .357

I wouldn't buy a desert eagle either... In .357, 50AE, or anything else. Most cumbersome semi auto ever!

A Smith 49 to drop in your pocket (yeah, it is a 38)
That 19, in a 4 inch
A 686 with six inch
A TC Contender with scope
A Stainless Blackhawk
and finally, a SP101

It's probably the most fun round to reload. I get by with four guns.

4.625" Ruger 50th Anniversary Blackhawk

5" Coonan Classic

6" Dan Wesson Model 15

16" Win 94AE Trapper

Might add a Model 649 next year to round out the collection.

If it makes you feel any better....

I just ordered a Ruger Convertible Blackhawk 357/38/9mm earlier tonight from GrabAgun.com for $483.79 including shipping and tax.
I got the blued 6.5" model# 10318
Should be here in a few days and I'll post a pic or two.
:D

good choice, and good price

Three would do it. A Ruger Security Six, a Blackhawk convertible, just for versatility, and a Coonan Auto. Well, two out of three isn't bad, but I'd really like a Coonan.

This is probably my favorite caliber; however, there are times when I have lapses with the 38 Super loaded with 357mag bullets. :)

Last count I have six 357s, bought my first in the late 60s while stationed at Mare Island.

Blackhawk 7.5" 1968,
Trooper MkIII 6" 1979 Colt action job
Dan Wesson 4" 1980
M686P 6" target trigger
M686P 4" Performance Center trigger,
M327 TRR8 scandium alloy N-frame Performance Center.

Rather than shoot 38s out of a mag handgun, there's a
M64 3" 1980. :)

At a Bare Minimum Two, One Hand Gun and One Lever Action Carbine.
I Own a Marlin 1894C and a Ruger GP 100
A 6 inch Barrel on the GP 100 makes it a little long to draw in a hurry, My personal recommendation would be a 4 inch barrel if all you want it for is SD, If you needed to you could shoot game with it but it would be easier to draw.
If you could afford it
one with a 3 in BBL for CQB
one 6 in BBL for dual purpose
and a Carbine for dual Purpose
Brands? that is a Ford / Chevy argument I try to avoid those I like my Ruger, and I like Smith and Wesson for revolvers and Marlins for Lever Guns but there a plenty of functional revolvers out there Get one that works well and is affodable.

This thread needs some pictures. This is what I have, one Smith & Wesson of each frame size and a derringer.

At a minmum:

SP101 for concealed carry.
Redhawk, stainless, 7.5" barrel. It will handle any possible load that can safely be put in a 357 magnum case and mine is dead on with 38 special wadcutters. (Once empty, you can likely beat to death whatever is attacking you, be it a bear or an Abrams tank.)

In reality, there is also the Flattop Ruger Blackhawk (50th Anniversary model will do) because it is so accurate and comfortable in the hand and a scoped Contender just because.

I forgot to list my converted 92 Winchester....a bad thing my brother and I did in the sixties...had a 92 Rifle rebarrelled to 357 and added a Rifleman lever. That crescent buttplate sucks when firing from the "rifleman" position...but it is dead nuts accurate when you use the sights (at least it was when my eyes were only 30 years old.

I wanted something a little different, and primarily for casual range work. I ended up with a S&W 686+ Pro with the 5" slab side barrel. It tames magnum loads well, it factory cut for moonclips, and came with a pretty good trigger that gets better with use. Don't see many of 'em, either. One of my favorite range guns.

I used to carry a 2.5" 66 for my CCW, but I've moved over to the darkside - a Glock 30, 11 rounds of .45acp.

I like a Sig 226 in. 357 (sig)

As far as magazine goes, I love my security six. I want to get a lever gun to go with it.

I have several to choose from here any time I want.. including several 357 Maximums.

But I only own ONE. And its a snubby.

Currently on tap...

Top: S&W 686 Power Port and Winchester Trapper, for "long shots" and "longer shots"... :)

Bottom (L to R): S&W 360PD for back-up or primary carry; S&W Pro-60 for primary carry and as a light trail gun; S&W 65 for a heavier trail gun and the night stand (of course, roles could be mixed and matched to suit the individual...).

The Pro 60 looks like a sweet carry. :)

Let's see:

Registered Magnum
Pre-27 5"
Pre-27 6"
Pre-27 6"
Pre-27 8 3/8"
Pre-27 8 3/8"
Pre-28 6"
Python (everyone needs a shooter gun)
Seems like a reasonable start
