Ok guys just finished watching the movie Crank, ( valentines and Im watching a movie by myself, Im a loser ok:p ) anyhow this is the 2nd movie i have watched so far that has the xd in it and none of them have the indicaters poped up such as the firing pin inidcator and the loaded chamber indicater that the xd uses you figure if hollywood wanted to make movies realistic then the would take this into consideration.

Thoughts?

I'd be satisfied if they would just focus on not having

  • magazines with bottomless-pit capacity
  • single action auto pistols that don't go "click-click-click" when they run dry
  • cocking/racking sounds when they bring a gun up to fire
  • sweeping everyone in sight
I think that little details like actually having the firing pin cocking indicator and loaded chamber indicator out are minor details compared to the absymal gun handling we see everyday

I was just watching a show, I forget which, where the slide locked back (at least they got that part right) on a Beretta, and the shooter kept pulling the trigger *click*click*click*click*. I guess they actually added the sound effects later.

I think it was on Heroes? I wouldn't swear to it.

Whoever said hollywood wanted to make pictures realistic? Odd that the only thing you found unrealistic in Crank was the lack of popped up indicators.

The most recent Lost episode had a scene like that with Sawyer shooting at the others from behind a tree.

No, on heroes this week Parkman (mind-reader guy) was a CCWing bodyguard for some diamond dealer. He chambered a round before holstering up (shoulder holster), and then racked the slide again when he drew (he heard thoughts about assassination coming from the elevator) and continued to rack the slide every time we saw him with a gun after that. It's a wonder he had any ammo left in his magazine by the time the shooting started.

Yeah there were alot of things that were not right in the movie, but that was one that I found that was gun related.

Yes, movies are movies, but even if it's a fantasy / sci-fi, there are certain things that should be believable.

I'd elaborate and give some examples, but it would take this thread OT.

How about double barrel shot guns that only shoot twice instead of 6 times with out reloading?

I was impressed w/ a CSI show last night, the one that is filmed on the Vegas platform...(I don't like the others as much)

Anyway, it was a cop convention/competition in Vegas, and there were a couple murders, and they found a Glock 19 at the scene, mentioning that there were two victims, checking the gun they found 14 rounds in the mag, mentioned it was a 15 rd mag, and that any good cop walks around w/ one in the chamber, therefore accounting for the 15+1, two victims/two bullets.

So at least some of the technical details were correct, now as far as the wife of the cop who used the gun getting 2 perfect 1 shot instant kill hits, well, that's another story.

It is funny though, now that I'm on here and researching firearms, I've learned more about them, still have a lot of models and details to become familiar w/, but I do watch movies/tv differently now...

Watched Crank last weekend. - :barf:

Raunchy, weak plot line, bad acting the whole way round. Jason Statham is never going to live that bomb down. I was dissapointed, I actually enjoyed his Transporter movies.

Movies aren't the only ones to get it wrong.

In the Boise, Idaho Cabela's they have a little museum featuring Elmer Keith's guns and some of his trophy antlers.

The legend of one of the 1911's that they have states that it was carried by a friend of his who was an officer at the Battel of Chateau Thierry in 1918 (France, WW1). Terrific except the 1911 in question has the arched mainspring housing - making it a 1911A1. The 1911A1 didn't come on line until 1927. Nine years after the Battle of Chateau Thierry!:what:

Not that I am a defender of Hollyweird, but mistakes happen everywhere sometimes.

I saw that, too. When it happened, I paused it (love that Tivo) and pointed it out to my wife and daughter and told them that's not how it works.

I rented Lucky Number Slevin just because Bruce Willis had an XD on the DVD cover. I was so excited to see willis + xd. Then, guess which gun he used in the whole movie? A 92 of course! How generic. :banghead: :cuss:

Decent movie though.
