I love my SIGs, but there's just something about my Type-M that gets the blood going everytime I take it to the range or just plain fondle it.:p Maybe it's John Woo and Hollywood...Skunk, care to chime in?;)

Good grief!!!! What is a Beretta compared to this??

:D

Although, I can't say that you're alone in keeping one of these. (or two) ;)

Fact is that Beretta's (non-Vertecs) have those full-bodied curves that just feel right in the hand.

Beretta

May I chime in on this one?

I gotta agree on a lot of points. Though I'm a die-hard 1911 fan and
no great admirer of a doublestack pistol, the Beretta M-92 Series and
M-84s just flat FEEL right. The dictum that a weapon should be smooth
and round and alluring to the hand was probably written after the author
handled a Beretta with the smooth wooden grips.:p

Back in the mid 80s, I owned an early M-92 with the frame-mounted
thumb safety and loved it. Unfortunately, I sold it in a weak moment
(read that as: Broke and lustin' after yet another Colt) to a guy who
pestered me for months over the pistol.

That pistol was uber-reliable. I shot thousands of rounds of various ammunition through it, and don't recall having a single failure to function.
Accuracy was fully up to what the pistol was designed for, and I would
have had no qualms about carrying the gun in harm's way. The only
reason that I rarely did was due to the bulk...Cold-weather carry under
a heavy coat didn't present a problem.

I haven't had occasion to examine any of the newer ones, and can't comment on the question of MIM or investment cast small parts in
these excellent pistols, but the basic design is sound, and I've never
heard any reliability complaints from anybody that I know personally.
There was the issue with slides breaking after heavy use a few years ago, but I understand that the problem has been resolved in later examples.

Just my nickel's worth...

Oh no...you better get rid of them....I have a friend in the army who knows a guy who knows a guy tht had one that jammed every other round..and a cop friend has a partner's friend who had his slide crack on the 4th round...and the government is thinking of going back to single action cap and ball revolvers......and I heard from my gardener.....

Beretta have style, but the slide mounted safety is an abomination.

Put the triple mode safety from the 9000S (which is an improved ripoff from the Taurus PT-92/99/100/101/9xx pistols) on the Beretta 92 and you'd really hae something!

I want to get a Beretta, even though my brother and friends would laugh at me and call me names. They say that they are too bulky and are impossible to clean. "Who cares!" I say! They are way cool.

And this is for my bro, whom I know is lurking. :neener:

I own a pair of Italian 92Fs...

I suppose I shoot the Beretta about as well as any other pistol, maybe a bit better...

I'm still a Sig guy at heart, seeing they always come with me to the range...

Why do I own 2 Berettas? I should just sell them and free the money for other things...

Dammit, that's crazy talk, bokchoi.
Crazy talk.

my 'M' type is on my hip as I type, I have other pistols, the beretta is the best. best in the hand, best shooter, best looking. has not failed.
no frame mounted safety here--it's a G thing!!

i think people just like to believe the negative hype. technically, beretta is an excellent gun company and the 92 is technically a good gun design. i'm not sure how people can dispute this. it has been proven by history. beretta has been making quality fire arms for almost 500 years. it is the oldes fire arms manufacturer in the world. the 92 is not perfect, but enough military and law enforcement agencies have verified that it is sound pistol.

now ergonomics are personal to each individual shooter. personally, i agree with you guys, the 92 just feels right. it fits perfectsly in my hand like almost no other pistol. when i first started trying guns, i picked up all the major brands. the only that made me say, "oh, yea!" was the beretta. i knew i had to have it. that elite 2 is still my primary cometition pistol and i love it. it is "uber- reliable". i can understand if someone does not like the fit of the gun. but, i don't see what that has to do with the quality of it.

that' being said, i did have a problem the frame. i was shooting so much that i was developing a callous on the top of the middle knuckle of my right hand, so i called ernest langdon (LTT), the famous idpa champion that won man titles with a beretta 92. he said he had the same problem and solved it by reshaping the bottom of the trigger guard. i had it done and i no longer have any problems.

i also don't particularly like the frame mounted safety. while i don't think it is an "abomination", because many other gun designs use it and it works for them, such as ruger and walther. however, i have a hard time reaching it with my right thumb without adjusting my grip. originally, the 92 had a frame mounted safety. i have no idea why the military required a slide mounted safety. i really like the frame mounted safety like on the billenium.

no gun is perfect, but the 92 is perfect enough for me.

The slide mounted safety is evey bit the abnomination on the Ruger, Walther, S&W etc. Only the Mak makes it tolerable, by at least moving off safe with a downward motion of the thumb, but its only really tolerable because the Mak is such a small gun.

If you don't like the frame mounted safety, just use it as a decocker and carry with safety off. Better yet, on the non-'L' models get the 'D' model. With that long trigger pull in a proper holster, you won't get an accidental discharge.
cool9mm, what's wrong with my non-Vertec comment? The Vertecs are not very curvy, though they may fit well in some hands. Visually, they look like slide and frame are mis-matched, or like a person with half a liposuction done.

I don't have a safety on my double action revolver so why do I need one on my 92?....to me it's just an Italian SIG with a decocker that can double as a safety...

92? I only own the 8040 because I won it in an NRA raffle. Beretta is okay but it is not my cup of tea! Don't you think the 92's are a bit bulky?

a little off topic... does the VERTEC and the other newer off shoots of the 92 use the same mags? I have a Taurus 92 and love that thing... Does anyone had anyluck using Berreta mags in a taurus? and vice versa?

All the 92 versions of the Beretta can use the same mags. Taurus and Beretta mags are not directly interchangeable but they say you can make the little notches in the mags yourself so they will work. Not sure about that as I've never done it.

I to really like the Beretta pistols. I really need to add one to my collection. My budy has a 92 that I get to shoot every once in a while and I really like it. I learned to shoot on Taurus 92's. Everytime I pick up a 92 styled pistol all the old memories come back. I guess I should go over to the gun shop and check out the 92 elite that name seems to keep calling my :D . If ony money grew on trees.
