Does anyone have any experience with the Thermacell? I'm hunting some new ground this year for the urban season that opens next month. The mosquitos are so thick that if you breathe through your mouth, you'll suck them down your throat! I've seen some hunting shows where people have gave them a good plug. I've read some reviews too. Does anyone have any experience with these? How good are they? Do they really keep the skeeters away?

I've used them in south FL. Yes it worked, but my wife and I both noticed we managed to get a pounding headache from the chemical that was used.

We have the same problem with those candles and torches that burn citronela.

They work "OK" if it's not windy at all (prevent MOST bites), but they give me a headache. Better off just using deet and using the wind, since you'll still need some deet anyway to supplement and since the game can smell the thermacell anyway. All in all, thumbs down.

I have been very impressed with mine. I dont know how i ever survived without it. It is not odorless though, I believe it uses dandelion or something and have heard it can give people headaches, but I have had no issues.

worth the weight in gold.

I hunt the swamps of south Louisiana and I would leave my bow in the truck before my Thermacell. They work awesome. I kill 5 -6 deer a year bow hunting and the deer are no wiser to the smell than anything else. They even sell the ones with cover scent built in if you so desire and are worried about the smell. How do you get a headache? You don't put is right under your face of have it smell blow in your face. Put it off to the side if the wind is blowing in your face, thus the chemicals won't be blowing directly in your face. A good tip is cut the pad in half and it will work just as good, just as long, or you will run out of pads before fuel and they don't sell the pads seperate.

I used one for spring turkey hunting this year and I won't leave home with out it again. Thought the skeeters would fly away with me a couple times before it got warmed up. Not a problem after though. Greatest thing ever IMHO!
Get one, you won't regret it.

when using it in a tree stand, you are limited on how far and where you put it. Second, if you put it where it doesn't permit the chemical to get on you, it won't do squat.

If it creates a barrier and your head is not in the barrier, guess what gets bit.

I bought one but have yet to use it. Like Dr. Tad said i will also use deet because i dont think it repels tics and chiggers. Ill repost when i do use it. I bought it for dove hunting but have not been able to go cause i injured my right hand.

I have limited experience with them, but so far it's been all positive. They are not odorless as claimed , and I doubt they would work in windy conditions, but mosquito wings don't seem to either.
Highly recommend trying one, especially if you're not a fan of bug spray.

A+ for the thermacell. I spent a ton of money on different masks to cover my face and eyes before I found thermacell. I think they are the best, I love em. I would say get one, you won't be dissapointed.

Thermacell works as advertised, buy one, it works. $10 for the lantern at Wally world and $7 for the refill

Used one for three days hunting in GA. Worked like a champ. It is not odorless, but I never experienced the headaches mentioned.

Thanks for the outpouring of comments and experiences! At that price, I have to at least give it an honest try out. Never thought about it, but it would be cool for having out on the patio as well. We have some gnarly little skeeters around the patio. Little bitty things that are freakin fast. Seems like they already bite you before they even land.

And thanks for the tip about cutting the pads in half. I'll have to try that one out!

Oh yea...they are great!
I used several while perusing the swamps of Florida, south Florida, were the skeeters file flight plans.

They work great. Unless it's really windy...and you have to stay in the cloud of vapor.

They won't stop 100% of the beasts, but they will definitely make the difference.
