I have a chance to purchaces a mossberg 590A1 from a local gunshop.

I know there is a dizzing array of models available for this type of shotgun but here is my best guess at is actual model.

The Shotgun has a 20 inch barrel and full length Magazine tube. No ghost ring sights just a plain bead on the barrel. It does have a bayonet lug and a sling swivel attachment, Metal trigger gaurd and Metal safety button. I believe it is the model 51660, Unfortunately someone has removed the standard synthetic buttstock and attached a cheap aftermaker pistol grip on it.

So one question I have is, will the synthetic stock from the 500 or 590 fit the 590A1? I assume it would be you know what happens when you make an assumption.

Let me know what you all think, keep in mind I already have an 870 exspress and a Saiga-12 so I don't really need another pump shotgun... That being said I wouldn't mind owning it ;)

From what I understand, the 590 is the exact same thing as the 500 except for a few upgraded parts (mostly using metal instead of plastic and better reliability). So, I believe it should fit.

Any stock for the 500 will fit the 590's....I'd go for a straight speedfeed with the shell holders and a Limbsaver pad.
Not sure if speedfeed lists them with the limbsaver for the Mossberg but they make them for the 870's now so it should be available.

I guess I am old school I was going to get standard stock without speedfeed if I buy the shotgun. Never really tried the a speed feed before. Limbsavers are nice for sure though.

I've got a 500 Persuader , 500USA , 590 & 590A1 . I don't collect them , just sort of accumulated them over time . They always work and most every part is interchangeable . I have a Speedfeed on the 590 . It hold 2 rounds securely on each side of the butt . It's handy ! I recommend it highly .

You don't mention the price on the used A1 ?

I've got a Marine buddy that carried the 590 in Iraq on his first tour . He loved it . He said the locals always watched the shotgun closely when he carried it ... Short story - He found the 590 "wasting away" in their arms room . The extractor was broken and it had been sitting there unused for months . He emailed me about parts . I contacted Mossberg on a Monday . They overnighted me all the spare extractor parts and a fresh mag tube spring . I mailed them the next day and he had his 590 in service in less than 3 weeks . Mossberg is tops !!! :)
He's carrying an M16 this tour . Convoy duty this time :(
He just re-enlisted on July 4th ! :)
God speed Jimmy .

I have a 14" 590A1 and, yes, the stocks are all the same. I just ordered a Knoxx CompStock (and Hogue forend) for mine to replace the SpeedFeed that's on it now. The shell-holding SpeedFeed is nice, but I shoot my shotgun a LOT (local "practical shotgun" matches) and I've really become enamoured with the Knoxx's ability to reduce recoil (and shoulder pain ;)). I have the same setup on my 18.5" 870HD, and it's a dream to shoot.

I still can't get into the uber-tacticool look of the SpecOps, but the CompStock has all the same recoil reducing benefits with a more traditional look... And I LOVE the grip and feel of the Hogue "over-molded" rubber.

The hogue forend is definately the way to go up front!
The shell holders on the speedfeed are kind of a bonus if you don't use them they don't get in the way and if you want to carry a mix of shells that you can get at quickly they are excellent!
They probably add a little weight to the stock but that's not a bad thing really.

Thanks for the info guys

I think I would probably just stick a standard stock or speedfeed if I could find one for cheap on it. Youd think there would be a million of the plain stocks around from people taking them off to put on folding stocks ect.

As for the price its less than $350 so I am seriously considering buying it. The only price I could find for the model 51660 is $460 new.

and I guess they are a bit hard to find new or used.

I should have my Knoxx sometime this week, so I'll keep you in mind for the leftover SpeedFeed if you're interested. ;)

cool Taurus I'll let you know if I buy it or not, and let me know how you like the Knoxx. Id like to get the 590A1 but really shouldn't buy it as, I am possibly getting a new job and moving soon so I will need some extra money but I feel like I might regret it if I don't buy it.
