So according to Mossberg's website, the standard 590 and the 590A1 are both the same weight at 7.25 lbs. Does this seem accurate? I would've thought that with the heavy walled barrel and additional metal parts in the 590A1 would make it much heavier than the 590 which does not have a heavy walled barrel and has more plastic parts. Is the weight truly identical or is this just Mossberg being lazy with their website and posting the same specs on two different guns? 2 links below:

590 special purpose 9 shot, 50663

590A1 special purpose 9 shot, 51663

Does anyone have any experience with both of these shotguns to give an answer? Both are the 9 shot models. Appreciate it guys, thanks.

I don't believe those numbers. The 590A1 with 20" barrel and extended mag tube weighs a lot more than 7.25 pounds.

Are you saying that because the 590A1 has a 20" barrel and longer mag tube that it should be heavier than the 590? Because both models I am referencing have 20" barrels and both have the same size mag tube. They are both the 9 shot models, so I don't see how what you are saying would make a difference. My question is in regards to the heavy walled barrel, more metal parts, etc. in the 590A1 vs the 590.

This.

I have a 20" 590A1, and it is almost too heavy for its intended use. And the LOP doesn't help.

I have a 590 A1 w/ a 20" barrel and 9 shot tube.

It's funny you ask this because yesterday, I compared mine to a buddy's 20" 500. The 590 A1 is noticeably heavier but in my opinion, it's not to heavy at all. What was also noticeable was the recoil. My 590 A1 had noticeably less recoil which I'm assuming because it's heavier.

In the end, I would say the extra weight of the 590 A1 is maybe 3/4 of a pound. I believe the barrel is contributing to 95% of this weight.

For reference, the 14" 590 (non-A1 but has heavy bbl) below weighs exactly 6.50 lbs.
