How long does it take to get the license?

Should I go with the larger Atlatl and feel conspicious or one that I can easily conceal under my animal skin?

And how about dart points, hollow or solid, plus I am hearing a lot about new metal tips made of bronze.

Og hang up and listen now;)

:D
You should choose to carry the atlatl with which you are most proficient and most comfortable carrying concealed.
Holster makers can do wonders these days, so pick the right atlatl for you and worry about concealment later.

:D

oh for the LOVE OF GOD.

it's about dart placement, people. a hollow-tip bronze point in the big toe ain't doing ANYTHING. so don't worry about size, find one with good sights.

Be careful with Saturday Night Special atlatl. They not strong. You throw spear, and cheap atlatl break! Splinters in eye no good when food getting away.

Speak of spear points... you want test different tips on [strike]ballistics gel[/strike] dead animal for [strike]penetration[/strike] pokiness.

Most New World regions stopped offering CALs around AD 800-1000, so you may be out of luck. It seems there were some changes in the rules of engagement paradigms and the bow became the dominant chucker. You may be out of luck in getting your CAL. Besides that, I don't believe there are any CAL-qualified instructors still alive.

I carry a standard length urban atlatl. It isn't the atlatl that is difficult to conceal, but the dart. Personally for self defense and the need for quicker deployment, I would go with the quick assembly breakdown shaft altatl darts that are akin to the camping tent poles that have bungicords inside the tubes to speed assembly.

As with guns, its all about shot placement. If you place your shot properly, it won't matter.

those bronze tips are soooo homo erectus.
The new hollowpoint copper items from Hornady are what you should use for maximum expansion, provided Og have enough arm to get them to speed.

Clearly, the new Hornady hollowpoints and stone weights are made to work as a system and can be customized for virtually any body type, tribe, head shape, or application.
Finding the right instructor will be a challenge, as will the necessary papyrus-work. But, persevere, since your right to carry an atlatl cannot be infringed!

Don't be a Neanderthal...Atlatl Control and Licensing is thousands of years away. No permit required. Who could read one anyway?

Atlatls are now C&R eligible, so there are some really good deals out there...check BCDNN.

Watch out for overpenetration with the new tips; they'll go clean through a Wooly Rhinocerous and might impale someone on the other side.

Best to just stick with good ol' flaked obsidian (although I'm thinking about laying in a store of fire-hardened wood tips for Caveman Action Shooting)

Before the sun sets someone will no doubt turn this discussion into "What's the best atlatl launched spear for Cave Bears..."

;)

OH Atlatl! When I first read this thread, I thought the OP was looking to get an Atlanta-specific firearms permit!
