Nope, not b/c I don't like it or it's been bad to me.

I also have a Saiga 12 that I enjoy shooting much more than the 870 (Not that the 870 is no fun)

However, seeing as you can only shoot one at a time and they both really do the same thing, why not sell the 870 & use the money for another toy or ammo that I could use for other weapons.

The 870 & S12 both have pros & cons, obviously. I have not converted the S12 yet, but do plan to. Maybe I could use the 870 funds for that too.
The 870 is the only pump SG I currently own.

I'm still on the fence so wanted to get some neutral feedback.

I have two 870s...

I am thinking about selling them cause I really want a Benelli M1/M2 or M4.... and I have a couple Ithaca Police models so I have a dependable pump 12 that I can use if I ever need to itch that scratch...

The 870s just don't do anything for me!

What- do they fight if you leave them in the gun safe together or something? :D

Things that are paid for, and don't eat anything, are not much of a problem that I can see. Sure, if money is really tight, and you need to do some other things you have to have the bucks for, then there might be some logic in selling a shotgun.

"Don't shoot it much right now" is hardly a really good reason by itself for selling a gun though. Things change...

jmho, ymmv.

I'm with Mr Lapin. The guns I regret selling outnumber the ones I don't regret selling. I take it you don't hunt, the 870 is a great platform for all types of shotgun hunting. I personally can't see that in a Saiga. ymmv

Nope, don't hunt, but want to try. If only I knew someone that hunted.

The number of guns I regret selling is far smaller than what I don't regret selling, but I get your point. ;)

It's an express w/some goodies. Have not thought about a selling price b/c I'm still not sure it's going to be sold.

Don't.

Pumps are very reliable and everyone should have one in their stable. And the 870 can be adapted to anything you want or need.

Is it set up for home defense or hunting? How long is the barrel? (I personally wouldn't own a Saiga.) How about the weight of each? How much are you expecting to get for yours? I just bought a new 870 - 7 shot HD gun, new for $320 less a $30 rebate for a total of $290. It'll probably be hard to get over about $250 for a used one.

I haven't sold too many guns. Those I have sold, I have not regretted for a moment. If you know you want to sell a gun, sell it and do something else with the money. Don't buy a bunch of Doritos and cheap beer with it. Buy a gun you want with the money, or go visit Zanzibar or something you'll remember for the rest of your life. There is no inherent reason to regret selling an inanimate object you don't find useful, if that frees up resources for something you value.:)

I have an 870. It's really worth more to me to keep it than it is to sell it. I'm not running out to get another one, or any other pump shotgun. But the 200 bucks I might get for it aren't worth selling a perfectly good gun that I have a use for, at least on occasion. It's not my favorite shotgun, but it is a reliable, durable one.

When I decided I wanted to try hunting, I didn't know anyone who hunted. So what? Same went for when we decided to get and train a hunting dog. If, in my life, I only tried things that all my friends did, I'd have spent the last 25 years sitting in somebody else's suburban living room watching dumb movies.:D

A Saiga isn't a good gun for wingshooting. An 870 can be anything from passable to great, depending on the 870 in question, and the game in question. I'd be reluctant to sell it, for the reason above: it's probably worth more to keep than it is to sell.:)

Just some random thoughts.

I have an 870, and plan on buying a Saiga 12 in the future, but one will never replace the other. The only reason I would ever sell my 870 is if...well, I can't think of any reason!

I did the exact same thing , sold my 870. bought a 19inch saiga 12. did my own conversion and have been tickled ever since. To those who say I would not buy or own a S12 that is your choice. You just do not know what you are missing. My opinion now- S12 is superior to the 870 hands down.:neener:

I will bet you my gummy bears that if you sell the 870, you will have another pump shotgun within 18 months. You will regret selling it....trust me.

I sold my 870 a few years ago and have been kicking myself ever since. I just paid more for a new Mossberg than what I paid for the 870 that came with 2 different barrels. Although I did need tne $ at the time, I wish I had picked something else to sell. I think you'll come to regret selling it.

Bill & Armed, it's an 18" barrel setup for HD/range toy right now w/a +2 extension, Knoxx Stock & light on it.

When I don't plan on eating what I kill, hunting alone is no good. Why would I go out, kill a deer & just leave it there?

i love 870 shotguns, i feel that if i buy a gun it will probably be mine til i die, well if i got one that really sucked cuz it wouldn't work right i might get rid of it, but i really don't think i'd ever sell or trade a gun i bought. i do really like the people that buy and sell alot cuz it makes good deals for the rest of us.

thanks
sam

Can never have too many 12 gauges and 870 is the standard by which others are measured. But if you want to sell it give me a good price... ;)

Do you need the money? If not, then don't get into the habit of selling firearms. It will always cost you more to have a change of heart and re-acquire a replacement.

Don't sell it. Never sell a gun unless you hate it. The 870's a fine weapon with tons of aftermarket parts I'd trust to work decades beyond the Saiga.

No offense Saiga owners, I want one myself...but if I was told I could only have one gun in my possession to stake my life/game/hobby on for the rest of time, the 870 would take the cake in this case, and in most cases. Period.

Just keep it. Save for what you want.

I have a converted Saiga-12 and it's probably my favorite SG (though my Rem 1187-Police is right-there as well). There's something to be said for a tried and true platform like the AK.

Nevertheless, I would never trust my Saiga or Rem 1187 to cycle anything other than buck or slug. My Mossy 500 (I do not have an 870 but it's essentially the same matter in this case) will cycle anything I won't to put down its throat.

Also, I know how to pump the 500 which is critical if one is to avoid short-stroking a pump shotty (regardless of what people will say, this takes practice under a tactical like environment where you are actually timed). I hear people all the time saying they have never had a short stroking problem but in all likelihood, this was not in a tactical-course like situation.

-Cheers

Why would I go out, kill a deer & just leave it there?

I thought you live in a rifle state, so the shotgun would be for birds. My mistake.

Birds aren't so hard to clean.:) I have pheasant down to a minute or two, starting with utter incompetence, and learning from rumors, books and the internet.

Everyone should have a pumpgun. See the old threads in the Archives on this.

While I liked the Saiga I had here for a while, ther's much to be said for an 870.

Mine, in 12 gauge, can run loads from 2 oz to 3/4 oz without a a hitch or any adjustment.

870s go up to 250K rounds before the receiver cracks. I dunno about the Saigas. but common reports indicate the Kalishnikof rifles are too loose to shoot more after 20-30K rounds.

If any 3 gun fans here have more than that through a Saiga, please chime in.

A Express will bring a couple hundred now, but having one on hand if things get hinky and one needs to arm a family member could be worth much, much more.

I've had an 870 express for many years. Not my favorite long arm nor the worst. Then I ran across an older wingmaster-I'm very proud to own this gun. I still won't sell the express though.;)
