I got a steal of a deal from a buddy on my first shotgun... I like it, but after lots of thought on my use of it... it doesn't fit correctly into my "arsenal".

It is a very nice Mossberg Mdl 835 in Woodland Camo with a full choke. I know it's a great turkey gun... but I don't hunt turkeys. Plus the inability to shoot slugs is a real downside.

I'm looking primarily for a nice weapon that is capable of Home Defense, but equally suitable or adapted to shooting clays for fun. (Not for competition, I know you should have a dedicated gun for that...) But how better to prepare yourself for HD than shooting rapidly moving small targets. (Other than 3 gun which I want to do as well).

Hence, I have two big questions.

What should I expect to get out of my 835???

What should I get to replace it???
I've thought of the 500/590 series... but there are alot of others out there...

I'm definitely looking at trading and not just buying another one... I'd love to just buy a new one, but financially I can't justify it. Especially when I'll barely use the 835...

Help me out THR!!!

First off, DO NOT trade it at a gunshop. You will be lucky to get 50% of it's value. Sell it either here, or on the popular online auction sites.

You can also browse these sites to get an idea of what the market value is. It will make it easier to sell if you know what others are selling for.

BTW, I may be interested as well. PM or email me when you decide on a price.

Why not???

Plus I'd hate to think that my weapon limits me to certain types of ammo in a SHTF scenario.

Also, I want to shoot 3-gun and where I shoot sometimes they require some alternated slug/buckshot COF.

Does Mossberg make a short bbl for the 835? And all the 835s I've seen have been tube guns. A more open choke would do for slugs, just learn to shoot with that sight setup.

Mossies are good reliable guns, and a shorter bbl with slug capability would give you what you want, including a casual clays gun.

Of course, you could swap it for a used 870, and have just what you want as well as more flexibility.

"But how better to prepare yourself for HD than shooting rapidly moving small targets"...

(Big Grin), Huzzah, someone's got it!

And do not trade it in at a shop. Best to sell it private party and walk in a shop with cash...

HTH...

Thanks guys... this may be the route I'm looking at... 870 that is...

I'll keep you posted...
