So I've been looking for a revolver to fit the bill of back up gun, and think I have settled for a Smith 438. Found one for $450 new out the door. Haven't bit yet, but thinking in the next couple of days.

I have looked at the LCR, but the grips were a bit too big for my taste.

Anyone have any tips on another gun I should consider before I bite?

Don't own a Smith yet. Have heard that Taurus' are pretty similar, but think I might go with the "name" for just a bit more.

Great choice for small revolver. I have the 638 and love the sa/da choice for plinking. Put on some CT laser grips and pocket carry 24/7. Nice weight at 15 oz will disapear about anywhere you put it.

Thanks for the info! I was hoping it would be a good size for pocket. I have an LCP that does good int he pocket, and wouldn't mind the option of a revolver for the pocket as well. I'm really starting to become more and more into revolvers and less into semi's.

I'm a big fan of S&W J frame revolvers and the Bodyguard frame too. When my son "borrowed" my M638 I went out and bought a M642. If the M438 would have been available at the time that's what I would have bought. I carry an Airweight J frame in my pocket daily and forget it's there. VERY easy to carry in a front pocket...

That's exactly what i wanted to hear.

I know how it is. My wife's favorite is the Sp101. So I'll have to get another one to replace "my" Sp101 but The 438 will be the next purchase. Hopefully next weekend! :D
