I have my NORC 1911 standard model and I'm thinking of converting my standard barrel to a bull barrel. Now, I think I have finally found the gsmith to do the conversion but I want to know first how and what is the process of converting a standard to a bull design.

Note; the extra weight of the bull barrel will not be a problem for me. I am just more concerned about the process. Could this ruin my nice and accurate barrel?

Thanks.

Well, it won't be your nice & accurate barrel any longer if you convert to a bull barrel.

I suppose a standard barrel could be sleeved to make Bushingless coned barrel.

But why would you want too if not to just add extra weight?

They were invented for sub-compact guns that didn't have room for the barrel bushing.

You take an in-the-white bull barrel and fit it to the slide, and then of course the lugs and ramp to the rear lugs and frame.

Peronally, what I would do is leave the Norinco alone (especially if it's still stock and not cut-up already), and get a Caspian slide/frame kit to build a new gun from scratch on. Frankly I did exactly this about 10 years ago and am really glad I did. The bull-barrel gun has since gone, but fortunately I still have the Norinco un-messed up and I like it!

The barrel is fit to the slide. The only modification to your slide will be reaming the recoil spring plug tunnel to accept whatever type of reverse spring plug you decide to use. You can convert it back with no problem. Understand I am talking about a new barrel, not adding a cone conversion to your stock barrel (Does anybody even do that anymore?) Have you shot any bull barrel guns? Some folks think it is an advantage and some don't notice a huge difference. I have both and on a competition gun I do think it is advantageous. It slows down the unlocking sequence and adds a little weight which helps reduce muzzle climb. Try to shoot one and see what you think.
