Well, i was dead set on the kel-tec, until i fired a stock trigger. I'm not too pumped about having to send it back to keltec to get a decent trigger installed.
The hipoint I hear decent things about, and heard they have an upgradable stock, making it a little more sturdy.

What do you guys think? Pros/Cons of each? Does the Hipoint have hicap mags, or is it modifiable?

I have a hi-point and like it. It's ugly and there aren't a lot of accessories to go with it. But how can you complain about $150 carbine with a lifetime warranty that goes bang everytime you pull the trigger. And it is quite accurate.

hipoint makes a verry good little carbine. ugly as sin, but great quality for 150! probibly the best valued American made gun.

I've read a lot of threads on a lot of forums on this topic and what it seems ot boil down to is this:

Hi-Point:
Ugly (can be mostly remedied)
Sub $200 price
Reliable with stock mags
Acurate to 50m
Lifetime Warranty

Kel-Tec:
more expensive
Folds
Takes Hi-cap mags
just as acurate

It all boils down to whats important to you.

Uhm, I own a hi-point, and a close friend owns the kel-tec. If you don't like the Kel-tec's trigger than I am sorry but the hi-point is not going to make you any happier.

The kel-tec is a sturdier gun, and it uses hi-caps. I like the Sub-machinegun look of it as well. Now, my hi-point has been very good to me, and I love the little gun and it IS a great value, but if you have the money for the kel-tec, I'd go with it.

Love my Sub2K

The Kel-tec is a fine little shooter, and that trigger will smooth out the more you shoot it. Got mine about a year ago (in 9mm) and have put several thosand rounds through it - I like just shooting it, and love the fact that it'll fit into a pizza box...

Looked at some Hi-Points today at a gun show.
They are not as ugly in person as they are in pics IMO.
Also they felt very comfortable and pointed well.
The ones I saw were in 9 and 40. Price was about $226.00.

If mounting any kind of optics is important then buy the Hi-Point

If having a hi cap mag is important buy the Kel-Tec

if neither is important buy the cheapest

the keltec is way better than the hipoint. plus you can get hicaps for the keltec., it is also best in Glock config.it is lighter, you can add rails, folds up tiny, and way more reliable.

I recently bought a Kel-Tec (G17). I've shot both. You would think 9mm out of a big heavy rifle would feel like a .22, nope. The Kel Tec just doesnt like the Scherer mags. But is 100% reliable with the factory G17 or G18 mags.
