Thinking of Savage .223....should I?

Whaddya think? That new "Accutrigger" is nice.

It has to be a .223 rifle as I have jillions of service rounds and need another gun to shoot em up. Have a Mini-14 but looking for something more accurate.

Don't need one-holer. 2" or less at 100 is fine.

Will the Savage light one do it?

Suggestions?

I would also like to have my old Win M70 Bausch & Lomb Balvar 8 mounts put on the Savage (or other)

Think that would be feasible? Probly need milling and drilling but think it would work?

Could then use same scope I switch off of other rifles. Have had that old scope for 40 years and it's great.

Savage rifles are great shooters. I have BVSS before the acutrigger. I put in a Sharpshooter trigger. The laminate stock is really nice and the rifle just plain shoots the lights out. I think Savages are a great preformers for the price.

I firmly believe that Savages are the most underrated rifle on the market, and the best value for the dollar spent. If you can't get it under 2" with decent ammo then you aren't doing your part....

At least consider a CZ527 .223. I looked at Remingtons, Winchesters, Rugers, and Savages, and decided to take a chance on a CZ. Boy was I glad I did! The trigger on the CZ's is just a little bit better than a Savage, and the price is right on. But watch out, once you get an accurate rifle, groups of 2" never become acceptable, hell it's a bad day for me if my 5 shot groups go above .6" at 100.

Jillions of service rounds and need to shoot em up? Sounds like an AR is calling to you! 2" groups are entirely possible with an AR!

I'm sure the Savage will serve you just as well. I'm looking to get a tactical model in .308. I've tried the Accutrigger..talk about sweet!

If you go the CZ route, make sure to get the heavy barrel models. I had a 527 with a thin profile barrel. Not especially good for long shooting sessions as the barrel get's hot and your groups start to wander. With so much .223, looks like you'll need the heavy barrel for prolonged shooting. The CZs with the single set triggers are awesome.

My 10FP Savage in 223 puts everything I have put through it so far into 1" or less @ 100 yds if I do my part. Just started working on handloads and 5/8" is not uncommon. (Have not tried any milsurp ammo, just WW and Fed. factory so far plus some handloads)

The heavy barrel is a bit nose heavy for carrying on a sling, but sure does hold steady offhand.

The accutrigger came from factory set at 1.5#; can't get any better trigger or accuracy out of the box IMHO.
