Dad sent me an email today with this in it:

"(7) Sells, manufactures, purchases, possesses or carries:
(i) a machine gun, which shall be defined for
the purposes of this subsection as any weapon, which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot without manually reloading by a single function of the trigger, including the frame or receiver of any such weapon, or sells, manufactures, purchases, possesses, or carries any combination of parts designed or intended for use in converting any weapon into a machine gun, or any combination or parts from which a machine gun can be assembled if such parts are in the possession or under the control of a person;"

I just bought a semi-auto WASR-10 and he is getting worried I guess. I told his this document deals with full auto guns only and that AK rifles are legal if semi-auto. I'm right, right?

I would not worry. The WASR-10 is a common over the counter semi-Auto rifle. Thousands of folks have them and you hear nothing about the ATF bustin them.

^Yeah, that's how I see it. My dad worries too much when it comes to the guns I own.

gun, have to be careful with "automatic" as it covers fully-automatic and semi-automatic.

Fully automatic weapons are regulated by the NFA (Title II).

weapon, which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot without manually reloading by a single function of the trigger,

Your WASR is a semi-automatic Title I weapon. As long as you are not disqualified from owning firearms (felony convictions, inter alia), you are O.K.

Your dad (no offense) needs to keep his nose out of your business, unless he has reason to suspect you are thinking of changing it over to full auto.

BTW: Hows the Wasr treating you? I was an idiot for giving mine up. :(

No offense taken, you are right. I used to live at home and when I became the first gun owner in the house. My father is retired Army but never owned a gun and didn't want them in his home. I have an apartment now so he doesn't have to worry about them being in his house but he still worries I guess. I only told him about my WASR because I needed to borrow the family van to make the trip to get it.

I have not shot it yet but plan on doing it soon. Just looking at it gives me good feelings though!

^ I've invited him a few times but he has been too busy. Someday I'm sure

Don't worry, your AK is fully legal. Thanks for doing your part to make sure that they are in "common use".

Take him to the range. Do not let him make excuses.

Place firearm safety above all else. Demonstrate to him utter competency and responsibility.

Let him shoot the WASR until the handguards get so hot gloves aren't helping anymore.

(And, if it were me, I'd finish off the range session with a 30 rd bumpfire!)
