We did all kinds of ballistics problems in physics.

Block of wood on surface with frictional coefficient .3, gets hit by a 10gram bullet traveling 400m/s, and goes 4 feet, how heavy was the block?

Guy stands 3 feet from the center of a frictionless merry-go round with and fires a N gram bullet at 300m/s at Theta degrees from radial, how fast does the merry go round spin if the value of g is 9.8m/s and the moon phase is waxing?

They'll probably change the curriculum now.

As a serious issue, though, I'd favor having gun safety and basic firearms function taught from perhaps the third grade, simply because there are so many guns out in the world now that the chances of encountering one are ever higher. You don't want kids running around who may find some thug's discarded piece, and the first thing they do is say, "Oh, a gun!" and pick it up and immediately pull the trigger.
