I keep a sharp eye on the gun market. Online, in town, retail, everything... Has anyone else noticed that the prices of guns through retailers is plummeting?

Ak's and ak pistols going for 400
ria 1911's going for 350
vz2008 with 5 mags and bayos going for 400...

Things are coming down. Im buying.

Looks like were seeing the tail end of a weapons run where manufactures are putting out too much for the market to disperse.

Any thoughts on this?

I am pretty much flat broke from being over a dozen guns and 30,000+ rounds of ammo during the last surge.

No wonder there is a buyers market!

Every time I look to buy they drop again, so I am waiting for a real visible bottom, When everything stays stagnant for a month or two. Last night a sig 229 with the carbine kit and laser with light was at under a grand. The gun itself was going for that last year.

IMO I won't consider things "settled down" until I can buy .22LR for 0.04-0.06 cents per round and when pistol and rifle powders are readily available. Well priced rifles aren't very useful without ammunition.

Time to buy, even if you don't particularly want another gun. There will surely be another panic, and you can profit handsomely. Two things will cause a panic: an adverse election result (think Hillary being elected in 2016), or a major gun atrocity.

This is simple market economies at work. Demand is slowing due to owners acquiring the guns they want and more confidence that Congress will not pass any anti-gun laws. It is creating a backlog of unsold firearms.

This is exactly why the ammo manufacturers are wise to avoid adding additional production manufacturing equipment. At some point the demand will start to drop and will create headaches as many consumers will have plenty of ammo from stockpiling.

I'll hold off for the importation of Saigas again (under the Kalashnikov brand) and hopefully pick up a sporter for $299, like they were prior to the panic. But $400 for an AK, that's not bad.

Yep. Just picked up my M&P15 Sport yesterday, shipped for $549 from Kentucky Gun Company.

Actually saw a PMR-30 (Kel-Tec) in the flesh at the shop while I was there. It's sticker if $525 was well below what these were going for a year or so ago (when they could be found.) He also had a G42, which the bigger local "showroom" and the other retailers haven't yet had.

IMHO this Novembers election results will have a fair impact on firearm/ammo prices. It will show the way the pendulum is swinging at that moment. Then it will be buy before 2014 or hold out for lower prices.;)

I check Armslist regularly and the people who bought in the panic are having a heck of a time dealing with reality. There a lots of used ARs and AKs with asking prices above retail.

I've also seen prices dropping. I watch Colt prices and some of their more common and least expensive models are down 10% and they actually have them in stock for more than a day.

I don't buy ammo but I reload so I watch powder prices and availability. Nothing much has changed there in a year and some brass and bullets are in short supply now. Shortages for one thing or another have been common for 2 years now. This tells me two things. 1) People have purchased most if not all of the guns they wanted/needed. 2) They are still stocking up on ammo and reloading supplies.

The odds of both of those things happening are very good. The news is full of mass shootings almost every week now. Some states will pass new laws to limit your ability to purchase some types of firearms and possibly restrict ammo sales. Most politicians are waiting to see which way the wind will blow in the next election.

Even Cheaper Than Dirt prices have dropped. An email I got today has AK pistols for less than $450. If I didn't have moving expenses, I might pick one up as a candidate for an SBR, rather than the AR stripped lower I've been sitting on.

Yep. I am actually holding out just a bit longer to pickup an AK. Never had much interest but I've kinda been wanting one lately. Got rid of my SKS during the last panic because it was so heavy and I didn't realize until I picked one up how much more "handy" the AK felt.

Need to grab up a stripped upper for my AR as well. When I got mine I got the "carry handle" version because I wanted one with all the "naughty" features. I then realized that the flattop is actually more versatile. :)

I have been wondering, as production increases faster than hobby budgets regenerate and prices come down, what of the parts guns?

People have assembling ARs out of commodity parts like kids stacking Legos, getting bored, and starting over with a different box of Legos, uh, "tactical accessories." How are those doing on resale?

You guys can buy all the guns at reasonable prices. With two Yugo M59s (not the later 59/66), two Garands etc, no more guns are really desired.

Continually buying heaps of 7.62x39 ammo is the only objective (not .22LR). Most ammo will skyrocket or vanish during the next major panic.
And you guys can have all of the .22LR ammo at today's typical retail prices. Enjoy.
