But its also the most fun to shoot. I will usually bring it to the range and shoot about 10 rounds through it. The reaction of the people around you is priceless.. Never fails to have everyone come over and ask What the hell was that? lol I am good for about 5-6 rounds before my hand hurts.. Here is a pic of it next to my .40..

I actually do not. Its right about $1.66 a round though. Its really more of a novelty more than anything else. I was actually looking to purchase a 1911 and got more confused, saw this in the corner of the glass cabinet and had to have it.. I dont plan on shooting it much at all.

When I read the title to your thread, I thought you had bought a Taurus:barf::neener::evil::neener:

The X-Frame's are awsome!!! Is that the 460 or the 500? (shell looks like 460)

The more you shoot it, the more used to the recoil you will get and be able to shoot more.

You can't shoot .45 Colt loads thru it?
A 325gr Cast Performance LFN in the .460 case over 11.0gr of Trail Boss generates just over 900 fps at .45 ACP pressures.

Try some Mechanix-type gloves. They help some with absorbing a bit of the recoil. Just make sure they fit well (a bit snug without pinching).

Never saw the point of the X frames OTHER than the novelty, and I'm a handgun hunter. :D Those things are harder to carry than a carbine or something like a M7 Remington, but they are kinda Swartzeneger lookin'. No one will accuse you of girly man status, put it that way. :D

Now, save your brass and buy a press and stuff.

I bought a 500 4" last week, it arrived at my FFL today. I have no idea what I will do with this firearm, I just wanted it. I found 350 grain ammo at cabellas for $32 for a box of 20, which is very inexpensive for this caliber.

This one may actually get me to do some reloading.

Cool to have a gun you can "step down" to .454 Casull and further down to 45 Colt for light plinking.

What a stupid purchase!

Just to make you feel better, I'll give you $50 for it right now.

(My .460 has a shorter barrel, but it's just as fun! :))

Are you wearing gloves? If your hands are hurting, you should. I love the heavy guns, but pain is not fun, and not necessary.

After 5-6 rounds, my wallet starts to hurt. Haven't found the right gloves for that pain, yet. But, somehow, I survive! ;)

Thanks for the advice on gloves. I will try it the next time out. The guy that sold it to me said most people buy it for hunting. Unfortunately you can't hunt with a hand gun here.

Other than just for fun, wouldn't it be good to have in bear country?

Yes it would. But the fact is that the X frames are so heavy that to carry them decently comfortably you'd need a fairly special harness and holster. Frankly at that point a compact rifle slung on your shoulder with .308 or similar for chambering is about the same bother to have at hand.

These big handguns are great fun at the range for the end of the session celebrations as you've already found out. And at $1.66 per round that's pretty decent for factory ammo. Reloading would save you a lot because with the .460 you have the option of using the commonly available and cheap 240 to 300 gn bullets used for .45Colt and .454Casull.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the .40. :D Seriously though they are great guns. I have a 500 with a much shorter barrel and it's a blast to shoot. With full power ammo I'm good for 25 rounds or so. Loaded just a little bit weaker and I can shoot it all day.

You should also seriously think about reloading if you want to shoot it more. I reload full power 500's for $0.33 a round.

If I knew you, and we were at the range together and you offered...
I'd plunk down $16 to shoot 10 of them. :)

If you are in Central Jersey you are more than welcome to shoot it.. I dont charge, watching the expression of the shooter and bystanders is payment enough ;)

I could get on target faster with a 12 gauge slug gun. But, for black bear, .357 is all that's necessary and .45 Colt from a Ruger is overkill. Now, in Alaska, give me a rifle with a lightish .44 mag or equivalent for back up. The rifle could be a Browning BLR in .325 WSM or at least a Marlin guide gun in .45-70.

I'm not into shotgun slugs for large, thick skinned, heavy boned critters that can eat me. There are slugs and then there are slugs, though. I'd want a rifled gun with sabot hard slugs for penetration.

Any handgun is inadequate, even a .460, for self defense on a 1200 lb brown bear and the .460 is un-necessary weight and overkill on a black bear. Hell, I've heard in Alaska, .357 is popular to be armed with, light on a long hike and if the bear is breathing on you, you shoot where the breath is coming from. You ain't gonna be able to prove self defense if he's 150 yards away and you could go to jail for shooting one just because he's there.

The best reason to buy one of these things is...JUST BECAUSE....or...I WANT IT. :D

"But, for black bear, .357 is all that's necessary and .45 Colt from a Ruger is overkill." What size black bears you got in Texas?
