I went and checked on those auctions a short time after my post there. Those auctions were shut down...see my post here: time..10:47 pm. Now, this morining I find my post on this in the forums has been removed. The two auction links shown here now show that bidding has ending TIME EXPIRED. ???????????????????????????????????????

Now I clicked on his "View seller's other auctions" like I did last nite and saw atleast 20 listings...but now it shows this:

Why did they delete my posting in their GENERAL DISCUSSION forums, hmmmm?

Search by "seller" and select auctions that closed in the last two weeks. Quite a listing! Doesn't look like any of them sold. I didn't look at them all, but those I looked at showed that the reserve wasn't met, whereas the descriptions indicated that these were "no reserve" auctions. Really does smell fishy.

Yep. Guy got caught, and now Gunbroker is playing CYA by posting all of their "buyer beware" policies. At least they put a stop to it.

Also, I can verify what others have stated, that copyright is automatic. I used to work in as the "Dissertation Format Advisor" (where I dealt heavily with copyright policy) in graduate school. I always used to inform students that putting the (c) symbol, or taking the further step of registering it with Uncle Sam were good ideas, but NOT necessary. You can PROVE copyright by sealing your original work in an envelope then mailing it to yourself in order to have a government date stamp. DO NOT open the mail. If you need to prove in court that you are the copyright holder, then you open it in front of the judge.

I never even thought that such a thing would happen (stealing pictures and posing as own guns). Good job catching the crook. It is a real shame that people have to be such sneaks like that.

dsk: Great catch. If you hadn't been surfing GB, I think a buch of folks would have been out a bunch of cash. I bet asolutely nothing happens to this guy. Someone (BATF, ICC, etc) should be checking to see if this guy even had any of the guns to sell so he can be prosecuted for fraud. Surely he broke some law.

If you posted something about this incident in the GunBroker Forums it was deleted as posting rules forbid criticism of auctions or sellers there. That's policy, even when the seller really is bad news.

Lifting photos of guns and listing them on auction sites does happen. Sad but your only protection is too avoid new sellers and watch feedback. Requiring MOs or other secure payment is SoP and not a warning sign. Most sellers will not take checks.

I have never been burned on a gun selling site but I have been ripped off several times on ebay by sellers who didn't deliver. Local cops don't care, BTW. I also had my password stolen and the scum was auctioning a $5,000 motorcycle using my username. Obviously the winning bidder would never see that bike after sending the check. Ebay somehow caught on and notified me of the scam.

No shortage of crooks out there.
