This should be a new Olympic sport: Mechanised Biathalon

Is the BBC's Top Gear shown in the US? If not, you're missing a treat. It's a motoring show, that (among other things) likes putting on ridiculous stunts (and the main presenter, Jeremy Clarkson, is probably the most politically-incorrect man in the BBC).

On last night's episode, they decided to do a motorised version of the Winter Olympics.

The first event was the Biathalon: two SUVs racing around a normal biathalon track (one driven by Clarkson). For the standing shooting, jump out and shoot normally; for the prone shooting, open the rear of the car, flatten the seats, and shoot lying down in the back of the vehicle.

The other presenter used a proper biathalon rifle, but Clarkson decided it would be more fun to use a full-auto HK-MP5. (Needless to say, he missed all the targets, despite putting a whole 30-round mag down range).

Unfortunately there isn't a clip of this episode on the Top Gear website, but you can read a more detailed description of it here.

Although do have a nice clip from another episode where Jeremy tests the manuvourability of the Lotus Exige against an Apache. (Yes, as in the helicopter gunship).

(The Apache is brought in for the second half of the video).

Top Gear is shown in the U.S. I just saw several episodes last week on Discovery, IIRC. It might have been Speedvision, I'm not sure.

Anyway, it is a very good shown. Light on technical details and heavy on fun. :D

It is shown a season or two (for the most part as it has only started here in the US) delayed on the Discovery Channel. There was a pause after the first season, IIRC, possibly due to the channels review on the popularity of the shows. I think it is still being reviewed as the shows have not been shown regularly, yet, even showing up on the Science Channel (one of Discovery's other channels). The dry humor of the hosts is great as are some of the interesting cars we will never see here.

I think Speed's counterpart is Fifth Gear. Not as good IMO.
