Thompson 1927-A5 Pistol (no provision for stock) 13.5 inch barrel; banned with 1994 Crime Bill due to it's weight as a pistol exceeding the maximum defined in the Crime Bill. Manufactured by Auto Ordnance Company of West Hurley, New York. Shown with 50 round drum.

I am hoping that these will be available when the AW ban sunsets in '04.

Anyone have one of these?

Thats not a pistol, its an Any Other Weapon due to the second vertical grip and no stock. Its exempt from the AW ban, but you gotta pay a $5 transfer tax and do the NFA thing to buy one.

If it didn't have the second vertical grip, it'd be legal under NFA '34, but banned by the AW ban of '94.

Surprisingly, it is exempt from classification as an AOW. They were sold as pistols. Either they had pull with ATF, or some ATF guy liked the gun. It might have been because they are still large and “not concealable†or that they weigh more than most rifles.

I saw one at the gun show today. The guy told me that there were only 3,900 of them made by AO and the one he had was 2,400 bucks, no drum. I was suprised by the heft of it.
