Thompson Center Cougar (followed me home)

Local pawn shop has a 50 cal cougar for sale...never saw one except in Shooters Bible over twenty years ago. Stock in good shape and would rate gun overall at around 85 percent. One of the ramrod thimbles have been replaced with a brass sling version. Barrel looks great....if it was shot looks like it was properly cleaned afterwards. They would take 200 plus tax for the gun.

I am definitly not new to Blackpowder but not certain as to value of these. Good value, fair price...?

Thanks for any help on this,
Kevin

Well it followed me home this morning. I have around 10 black powder guns (some my father made himself) and a TC Hawken I put together from a kit in my mother's living room in the winter of 1989. I thought about this rifle a lot last night and did some more research and decided to go see if she was around this morning. Well she was, after she winked at me I was sold. I think she's a beauty and love the grain.

I had never bought a used black powder rifle before because I have always been terrified of someone not cleaning it properly and having a useless bore. Well soon as I got home I took the barrel off and put it in the vise and ran a very tight cloth through with some solvent on it and it came back out crystal clear. Hmmm, I said and repeated and each time same result so I'm ecstatic!

Thank you eastbank for the information. If anyone knows where I might find an original ramrod thimble for this rifle please let me know.

I had my window opened at work typing and had to deal with something and you posted before me. :)

Great looking rifle. Here's one on Gunbroker they're trying to start the bidding at $599. No takers yet but that tells you what people are asking. You did great.

gunbroker 599

Took a look at that one on gunbroker and I'd say the one I purchased is in a bit better shape. I'd rerate the one I purchased at about 90 percent or so after I got it home and cleaned her up. I agree that the one on gunbroker is a bit overpriced most likely, but definitely gives you an idea of where they are headed.

Many thanks,
Kevin
