Does anyone have experience with a thompson center encore or contender in .300whisper. I am looking into buying a barrel for either my encore or contender for illinois deer season. I'm really looking for someone with hunting experice with how it does on deer but anyone can chime in. I have a friend that reloades so I can go that route to save on cash.

Is there a reason you favor that cartridge? IL law prohibits silencers which seem to be the major selling point for that cartridge.

Curious what appeals to you with the .300W that a 7-30 Waters or something more common wouldn't do.

You might better be sure the whisper is legal, not a truly straight wall case. The 30 BALLM is and you can use that . I would just shoot a 460s&w in the TC

I don't belive the 7-30 waters is legal to use. As for being a straight walled case it doesn't have to be as long as it's 1.4inches or less. The .300whisper is from what I have read. The .30bellm is also a consideration.

Consider instead the 300 AAC BLACKOUT.

It's essentially the 300 Whisper without the royalties. AAC has submitted this cartridge to SAAMI, thus eliminating the royalties issue. Ammo currently being manufactured by Remington in the 123gr flavor. Dies are available from Foster. Barrels are being offered in the AR platform, Remington 700, as well as some others. www.300aacblackout.com Any 300 Whipser or 300/221 Fireball chamber can be reamed for the 300 BLACKOUT.

If you're trying to get a cartridge for the strait wall hunting laws, consider something else. These are necked cartridges.
