They can be had NIB now for around $300 after a $50 TC rebate.

They have a guarantee on MOA out of the box of 1" or less.

I've read conflicting things about them after some research, so I thought I should ask the members here who have them, have had them, or have spent time with them.

Thanks.

OBG - Can you give me some more specifics, such as it how it stacks up to Savage/Stevens/Remington?

Fit and finish?

Also, it's available in .270 for the same price.

Thanks.

JQP, I'm planing on buying a .223 Venture next week (399.00 after rebate. I know not close to 300.00 but small town and you HAVE to support your LGS). All my searches and post have only turned up only one negative comment and that would be a stock issue not a mechanical one. The Venture is basically a I-CON in a cheaper stock. At around 300.00 I would personally buy two, the .223 and another caliber such as my second choice the 300 win mag. Buy it or maybe two. deadeye

I was all set on picking one up in 30-06 but found a good deal on Ruger Hawkeye M77 stainless for $75 more so I jumped on that. However with my Christmas funds im thinking I may pick up the 30-06 if its still there. lol

Brothers, I do appreciate the feedback.

Would all of you recommend sticking with the 30-06, or do you think there's any advantage to the less potent .270?

any advantage to the less potent .270

Nah. '06 is more popular, for the most part about the same cost (although you can buy military surplus for cheaper) and more powerful. Recoil isn't that much more tame on a .270 from my experiences.

I would not consider the 270 as being "less potent" than the 30-06, especially at longer ranges.

I bought a super accurate Venture in.223 last spring. Synthetic stock isn't the prettiest but it has a nice trigger.

I've been looking at the Venture lately myself. When I bought my last rifle it was a .30-06 in a Weatherby Vangaurd, but if I would have seen a Venture in '06 for $300, I would have definately went that route. Good deal.

I bought one this summer in .243. It's by far my favorite rifle now. I have an older Savage 10 with a Timney trigger as well as a couple of Savage 11's with the accu-trigger. All are great shooting guns with good triggers, but the Venture has the best trigger and accuracy of all of them. Unfortunately, I paid way too much for mine, I can't believe you guys are finding them for $300 after rebate. I paid $469.99 before rebate. After my purchase, I found them for $399.99, but that's the cheapest price I've found so far.

Cheapest I have found was $417.99 before the rebate. This place I have never seen their prices beat. Whittaker's in Owensboro, KY.

I traded in a 30-06 savage in for the .270 win ruger hawkeye. Still have my eye on the 30-06 Venture if I ever get an Elk tag.

Guys, I really appreciate all the excellent feedback and advice.

It's great to be able to access such a deep and diverse knowledge base like the one here on THR.

The .270 has no practical advantage in trajectory unless you are punching paper out past 600 yds. The 06 makes a bigger hole and carries more energy at impact. Both are fine rounds and have purchased rifles in both calibers. If you can't have both though, choose the .30-06.
