Hi Any recommendations for the ring height on a Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 11 3- 9x40 scope for this rifle.
Many thanks

Without first hand knowledge of both rifle and scope I cannot answer with certainty but you can resolve the issue with a few common items around the house.

First the scope’s body is 1” which is 25.4mm. Subtracting that amount from the scope’s objective diameter, the actual vs 40mm lens diameter noted. That measurement is just under 49.1mm.

Subtracting the tube dia. from the objective dia. leaves 23.7mm. This is the amount resting above or below the inside of your scope ring’s contact area but we are only concerned with what lies below. So, divide that number by 2 and you’re left with 11.85mm or .467” meaning you’ll need, worst case scenario, 1/2” from base of ring to the bottom of the scope saddle, BUT...if your scope’s objective is forward of the rifle’s built in rail, then you’ll be able to use lower rings, likely 1/4”.

The caveat: if you plan to use the peep sight for any reason you’ll need to consider it when fitting your scope which means using shims to mock things up. This is where the “common items” clause takes over. You could try wood scraps and electrical tape, PlayDoh, clay, paper/cardboard; anything that can be removed and measured after. Remember to keep a little wiggle room so there is no contact with the rifle apart from the rings.
