Any Thing Good about the 45acp Para Ordnance P-14? Anything Bad?

I have one coming and don't know allot about them. It only has one ten round mag. are Regular Cap. Mags made for it in more than 10 rounds? It is a Black/Blue finish. Is the Para's known to have a good finish?

What would be a GOOD price for a LNIB P-14 that has never been carried and only 10 rounds fired?

Thanks In Advance For Any Info!

Several good things, a lot of the parts interchange with a standard 1911 so youre pretty much covered on aftermarket parts (barrel, trigger, magazine release, and obviously the grips are different, there may be more that I'm not thinking of). You may have a problem or two during break-in, not unusual. However if you keep having problems Para stands by their products from what I understand.

14 round magazines are readily available, most of mine came from CDNN, new mags from the para pro shop run about $50, and the mags from CDNN were about $40 last time I looked. Download them by one round, the spring lasts a lot longer IME. Mec-gar makes 13 round mags for them as well, and I've heard good things about them, just havent tried any. The Para ten round mags suck because of the way they were nutered, they tend to fly apart when they hit the floor IME. Its happened several times with the otherwise reliable P14 rental at the range I frequent.

One complaint I have is the pastic mag button that Para seems fond of.

I've handled several and they seem to be well-built and were more accurate than I could shoot them. The only problem I have had out of my [single stack] LDA was the extractor, which was swapped for a Wilson.

As far as the price, I couldn't tell ya. I'd have to look at it and see the tag before I could call it.

You could learn a lot more about the gun and Para reputation in the Para forum at 1911forum.com.

Got one. Love it! VERY accurate and 100% reliable. (Mine is the older non-LDA model) Also, do NOT think it can not be concealed with a good holster. Very comforting to have 14 rounds of serious thump at the ready.

Order the steel mag release for it and install it right away. The plastic one works, but they don't hold up very well. Other than that they are good guns.

I have had the P14 for some time. It is accurate, totally reliable for me (no jams that I can remember), and fun to shoot. Three 14 round factory mags came with it. Of all my pistols and revolvers, I feel most confident with the P14. I believe I can count on it to work, to hit what I am aiming at, and to give me lots of fire power. I also have a P12 which has an even better trigger than the 14, but has had jamming problems which I attribute to dirty ammo fouling the gun while shooting. Of course, you feel more recoil with the smaller P12. Both pistols are stainless and have high quality finishes and fit. These were made c. 1997, but I bought them new in the past year. I can even carry the P14 in a big waist pack.

not for me

my thoughts
i have had 2 para. products, a p13 and a p14 limited lda. i was impressed with the pistolas overall, i was not impressed with the hi-cap magazines. neither gun was ever 100% reliable. the limited was boughtnew with a 10 round mag. used the coupons to buy two more and the dealer had another. the first week , the pistol ran great, then ALL of the mags started to fail to hold the slide open everytime. all mags were sent back to para, reworked or what ever they do, same mags were sent back to me. no problems at first, then all mags started to fail to hold the slide open after llast shot fired. not all mags were stored loaded, some were stored empty. in the future, i will avoid double stack 45 weapons. good luck with yours, para seems to have good customer service. my mags were sent back 1 more time and pistol was sold after that. btw, fwiw i did not care for the lda trigger system.
and the p13 is an awesome idea ! ;)

Agree. Swap it for a steel one and you're good to go.

There are some full cap mags available here

Mine Para's have always been 100% reliable and accurate with the excpeption of a P13...I had to replace all the mag springs to make it run, now it's 100% too.

Enjoy the Para.

I've got to dissent here, based on my experience. I owned a P14-45 and it was a total jam-o-matic, unreliable with all ammo under all conditions with multiple magazines. Sold it for scrap. Some gunsmiths won't work on them at all due to the turd factor.

I am very surprised at the differences in opinions here. I really like the 14-45's but I just cannot get myself to spend almost $1000 on the pistol. It may be a good idea to shoot a few rounds out of it and test it out for a while if you have the chance to rent it before buying it.

If you can't, and it is a great deal -- go for it.

Mine (s16.40 Ltd) needed some simple feedramp polishing I did with 1500 grit sandpaper and now runs like a champ. They make great competition guns, and I'll definitely disagree that smiths won't work on them because they are crap.

I have one. a 14-45 LDA Limited (blue). Ambi-safties, adj sights.
I paid 800 bucks in a private sale at a gun show. used, but just barely, probably only had less than 500 rounds through it. I've put probably 2000 through it.
It's nice. It's not special, it's not great, and it's not awful. it just is. It is pretty darn accurate though, better than me. It's bleeping huge, really handles the recoil. The LDA theory is interesting, at least the pull never changes (like a DA/SA). But it's odd and I never really get used to it.
I dunno. I'm not selling it and it always shoots (I can't think of one FTE and i run cheap ammo) but I wouldn't buy another one. Just doesn't do much for me.
I guess I want a single stack with a SA trigger.
But yeah, it's a lot of firepower. :D
