I'm looking at picking up a Colt 1991a1 Commander. Before I purchase, I'd like to here some opinions on it. Fit, finish, and price are perfect.

I have one and could not be more pleased it takes everything I have put through it. I have noticed that it is alittle quick to rust though, just keep it well oiled and you will be well pleased.

Assuming the price is right, you could be getting a very good deal. The parkerized ORM 1991s have been devalued by the blued NRM 1991s. they are very solid 1911s though, and an excellent base gun or just basic 1911. I built a 1991 Compact into a great little carry gun.

So what is the right price? Anything around $500 is normal, below $500 very good. Over $600 and you may as well buy a NRM 1991.

Here's how to check it out.

My brother had one and I got it from him.

It's very reliable and looks like it came throated from the factory. The first time I shot it he and I put about 60 rounds of assorted .45 ammo, including SWC target reloads, through it. It fed everything.

The only problem I've had with it is one of my .45 magazines will not seat.
I had a bad afternoon at an IDPA match once too. I had to borrow a mag since I'd forgotten most of mine and had a bunch of failures to feed. With good mags, no problems.

My youngest son likes it and used it in a steel plate match last year.
He beat his old man who was using a 9mm BHP.
