Thoughts on low-cost AR optics

I don't know anything about that scope, but I have mounted a red-dot to a carry handle. Cheek weld was a real problem for me (it was more like chin weld). If you know someone with a scope on a carry handle, I would suggest trying it out or at least shouldering it prior to purchasing.

I've recently done a ton of research on low budget AR optics because I was looking for something for my A3. If you are looking strictly for A2 style optics, I'm not sure what to recommend.

From what I have found, Primary Arms seems to have serviceable low budget optics for AR rifles. Anything less and you are asking for trouble. You may want to cruise their website to see what they have.

If you want to have an optic mounted on a carry handle, you might want to invest in a cheek rest like this http://www.midwayusa.com/product/761080/john-masen-cheek-rest-ar-15-a2-buttstock-synthetic-black .

As far as an inexpensive (~$60) 10x scope for an AR, I would suggest looking at the closeout Simmons 2-10x44 Whitetail Classic scopes at Natchez. They are the older made in Philippines scopes so the quality in MUCH higher than the current crop of made in China Simmons scopes. Here is the link http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail&prodID=SN800054C

For $60 bucks I would assume its about as good as the scope I have on my pellet gun. Not good...I would maybe look for a used COLT style carry handle 4x scope or a cheap Barska knock off.

Actually, I was going to do an A3 flattop mount, probably sell off the carry handle mount.

UNCC, thanks for the heads-up. I'll check out Primary Arms and see what I can find there.

Wnycollector, I got that email from Natchez. For some reason it didn't make my grey matter spark. Thanks, I'll check that out for sure. I have no problem with PI made equipment, I know enough Philipinos to know they do good work. :)

Recit, that's kind of why I posted this. I'd rather spend more once than save a couple bucks several times. Of coruse, not spending a ton is better, too. ;)

A 10 x fixed power will be somewhat limiting in many of the applications for which we use AR's. If all you want to do is shoot 100-300 yards off of a bench, it may work for you. If you desire close in flexibility, something with a lower bottom magnification should be a consideration.

Any scope they don't even tell you the name of the maker is to be avoided in my book. I've had very good luck with Bushnell for not much more money. I'm sure the Bushnell-haters will provide their opinion shortly.

check out natchez--they have many scopes--prices from low to high. i have several bsa sweet variety scopes--cheap and they work. don't worry about the perfectionists out there who think you have to spend hundreds of bucks.
