Thought about picking up a Ruger Charger as a fun gun/range gun. What's everyone's thought on this little thing? What's the practical purpose of it? Accuracy? Reliability?

Have thought about getting one but I decided that having a small and accurate 22 pistol like a Buckmark or MK and a rifle covered all bases.

I fired on about a year ago and it was fun to shoot. I used it with the tripod extended and hitting what I wanted to was easy from a bench. Had there been one available at the time, I'd have bought it.

The thing is, we already have three .22 rifles and four .22 pistols and my wife wants a Ruger 1022 target model. I'm not opposed to buying anything just for the fun of it, but I really couldn't decide exactly what I would do with it.

I may buy one still, but for me it's one of those oddities that is fun but basically improves on nothing we already have.

They're good for bench shooting, the ones I've handled seemed awkward for offhand or position use.

If I was building a 10/22 from scratch, I'd probably get a charger for a donor gun, but I'm just not a bench shooter. If you're invested in 10/22 parts/mags/tools, and do enjoy bench shooting, the Charger seems like a winner.

It's my relaxing gun.
I mostly use it when I feel like just sitting and trying to shoot small groups.

A while back I ran across this stock and bought it just because it's an attention getter.:)

The gun is accurate. Maybe more than my 10/22 rifles.

Standing. Shooting from the hip using a laser. (just for fun)

Now that's an interesting idea. But isn't the barrel kind of short? Or is it just the action you'd be starting with?

I think it's the most accurate gun I own - within the limits of the 22lr cartridge. It outshoots my buddy's 10/22 with his aftermarket barrel and other work done to it. inside 75 yards.

As my 14 (then 13) year old daughter put it. It's stupid accurate. Its the one gun I have that everyone I take to the range can shoot, and shoot well with little coaching.

I actually used it to get both my stepdaughters and wife accustomed to recoil and basic trigger skills before moving them to a handgun and then to their carry pieces. Worked like a charm.

Just the reciever and some parts, if I was building from scratch the barrel would go to the parts-bin.

Sounds like its got the accuracy and fun part down. I'm gonna keep a look out for one.

Get it while you can they've been discontinued.

Well I didn't know that.

Bottom line, I guess it wasn't selling.

Not that I intend selling mine, but the price just wemt up.:)

I bought the first one I ever saw in Jan. 08.
When I saw it I hadn't heard of them and bought it just because it looked "cool".

I love mine. The stock trigger is a bit gritty. Will eventually get around to replacing that. Very accurate though.

I looked for a long time to find one. When I saw a new one at a gun show, I jumped on it & paid full retail. Then as life seems to go, The very next week, I found a stainless model with a scope in a pawn shop. Like new condition & $100 less than I just paid for my blued one. I called a buddy and told him about the pawn shop find. He was already on his way to work. But diverted & nabbed it up.

Would make a nice SBR if you live in a state where they'll issue the $200 tax stamp.

I'd jump on one for such a purpose if I found one at a good price.

I would get one as a ready made SBR project. Get the stamp and drop it in a rifle stock. Too bad Michigan does not allow SBRs.

As a pistol, I would not buy one. I approach pistols generally to carry for defense, and I'm not shoving a Charger down my pants (although doing so might garner more attention from the ladies). If I plan to plink with a .22, its with either a rifle or a Single Six.

I never got into bench shooting, so maybe that's why I don't see the practical value I. The Charger.

M2Carbine-

Oh Mah Lerd, that gun would cause some pants-pooping-hysteria among the anti gun crowd! I'm impressed with your ability to take a benign .22 and make it look like that!

Morgo, I like everything but the magazine, what is it? Doesn't look like a box around a Ruger BX, one of the double stack 30 rounders inside? or a special unique magazine for the stock?

Its a dummy mag.

The charger, even as above, is still a handgun here and we are limited to 10rds.
The dummy mag is only for looks and mounts to the base of the standard 10rd mag.

I think it would be neat to have one, and would purchase one if I didn't have any holes to fill. I do quiet a bit of shooting from the bench, so it would work out well.

Magnum Dweeb,

He is from Oz. Australia land of transportees (like Georgia and Florida) and Kangaroos ( not like Georgia and Florida) and completely different laws.

Don't embarrass the rest of us Crackers worse than my spelling, Bro.
