I don't know what it is about these guns but it seems as if I have to have one. Does anyone have any personal experience with them on reliability? I was also wondering how well the barrel flip is eliminated in this series. Do you guys like the M-9 series or the M-9A1? Any complaints?

I've only heard good things about them from actual owners, reliability shouldn't be any issue, and they have an awfully low bore axis, so muzzle flip shouldn't be very great either.

Also check out the Caracal, it's the next step in the design by the same engineer.

Happy with my M9. No experience with the A1 or Caracal (another Bubits design.) I've had a few feeding issues in the past but it can eat WWB all day long and it's more accurate than I am.

I have owned a steyr, but it was ling enough ago that i don't know the model number. It was a good pistol, but i could never get used to the weird trapezoidal sights, so i sold it. !

I love the steyrs. Personally I think they are some of the most underrated pistols out there. I find that the M9/MA1 compares very favorably to the Glock 19 (I own both). I prefer the steyr's grip and its trigger. I have had a number of people who curse glock grips tell me they like the Steyr grip ( I don't mind the glock grip at all I just prefer the steyr's). It also holds 17+1 in a package that is basically the same size as the G19 Also the lower bore access of the steyr is another thing I favor. It makes for a gun with little muzzle rise and it has very low perceived recoil relative to my other 9mms. If I am taking someone new shooting it is the first center fired handgun I'll have them shoot. My steyrs have been very reliable. In fact I like them so much I am eyeing a Steyr S9 right now despite the fact that I already have other sub compacts. I think they are great guns that just never got marketed very well in the states. One draw back is there is not nearly the after market support that there is for say a Glock. You can get everything you might need or want though.

Had one in .40 it was the most inaccurate handgun I've ever shot.

I also have one in .40 and that has not been my experience.

I have a M40A1 and love it. The best ergonomic grip amount polymer pistols. Reliable and accurate. The trigger isn't too bad, for me it felt like Glock with 3.5 connector.

Some like the triangular trap sight, some don't. I prefer comment 3 dots sight but not enough to actually change it out the stock one.

I love my S9. I've had nothing but accuracy and reliability... compared to the A1, the older S9 is nicer for those with small-medium hands, and also better for concealed carry due to the rounded profile (specifically the lack of a standard rail) being less likely to hang up on something. One word of caution is to watch out the first few times you take it out (if you're getting a new pistol) because the loaded chamber indicator needs some breakin, and until about 500 rounds are down the tube it will occasionally throw an empty casing at your forehead. Dry fire the hell out of it - the trigger only gets nicer, and you won't break anything. If you get a non-A1, the trigger may be on the heavier side (8 lbs), but SAI will upgrade it for free (less shipping) if you elect to have it done (I passed since the trigger's not all that heavy, and breaks nice and clean as it is). Whoever sells theirs doesn't know what they're missing out on.

i have 3 steyr's and am getting a Caracal through a buddy for a good price.

I love Steyr's and im a big fan of the M&P but the Steyr is a better gun IMO with a smoother followup shot.

This one right here as just shy of 6k rounds through it without 1 single malfunction. I love it

I really like that second picture. You will have to let us know how the Caracal compares. As a Steyr owner I've been real intrigued by it since I first saw it.

Steyr AUG yes, but not much with M9. Only handled one a few times, but for some reason I didn't buy it.

I agree with everything in this post..........except I sold my Glock. It was a darn good pistol but the Steyr just has better ergonomics and trigger.

My only complaint are the lack of trapezoidal night sights.

but he refuses to let anyone touch it if they aren't serious about buying... it's $2800.

If you are looking for a barbie you can dress up 100 different ways or to trick it out as a race gun there are better choices. Apart from that there's not anything you need that you can't get. Even on my glocks I change the sights and that's it.

There are not as many holster choices but there are good holsters available.

The only two things I really find myself wishing there was better support for are:

Threaded barrels--You can get them but the are a lot more expensive than a lone wolf barrel for the glock and it will likely take longer to order one.

.22LR conversions--None exist I know of. I have one for my glock and it is nice to have.

I think out of the box they have a better trigger than a Glock, but you can fix that by purchasing a Glock 3.5 lb connector.

True enough. But the Glock will never has as short of a trigger pull (take up) as a Steyr.

And with a Steyr you can put the Big Taco upgrades in it and have a really nice trigger.

"Take up" is not an issue for any good shooter. What matters is the actual trigger pull.

The Steyr has a shorter and "crisper" trigger pull than the Glocks because the Steyr is basically single action.

The "take up" on the Glock is fully cocking the already about half cocked striker.

Since the Steyr is already about 98% or so cocked the trigger is going to feel more like a single action 1911 type trigger.
