Thoughts on the Dan Wesson 751 (.41 mag

Here is my now, Safe Queen. Dan Wesson, Model 741 8" Barrel. I'm no longer hunting in Pennsylvania, so I'm seriously considering putting it up sale. I sent it back to Dan Wesson a few years ago, to get a new hammer, new springs and shims. The rig also has a custom shoulder holster. All tools, about 700 rounds of handloads, new brass and 210 gr. bullets.

:what::what::what:

I have 2 medium frame DW revolvers and they are fantastic. The 6" M15 .357 is my most accurate revolver- and thats saying a lot!
I stupidly passed on a .357 Supermag large-frame a couple years ago, they were asking $1400 iirc. I wish now I had sold some fluids to fund it.....

Hemiram-
What grips are thoes? Are they stock? The 6" that I saw has some after market finger Grove grips that I don't love.

Thanks!!!

As far as I know, they are stock. I've seen them on most of the 44's I've ever seen. I bought it when it was about 35 years old, so I don't know it's history, but it was a steal at $410+Ship. In near new condition except for the dings on the grip. I have another set of grips with finger grooves that I don't like much either. My DW 715 came with 3 grips, and the stock one keeps staying on it.

Hi all. Just wanted to get the groups thoughts on the Dan Wesson model 741 in 41 mag. My LGS has two in stock. Both in almost new condition. One 6 inch amd one 8 inch. Price is about that of S&W 57 in similar condition. I like the look of them, but don't know much about them, so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Ps. This would be a toy. No particular use, just the joy of shooting. I do reload, just not for the 41 mag (yet... ha ha).

Thanks!

Did you buy it yet?

Hang on to it if you don't need the money. If you sell the gun you would kick yourself down the road (especially when you would pay $300 more to replace it.)

When you consider which 741 to buy, you might want to check the chamber throats. My 744 had very tight throats. It shot much better after reeming thrm to a uniform 0.431".

The DW has a reputation of great accuracy. Most say its because of the tensioned barrel, which screws into the frame and is also held at the muzzle by a nut that holds the barrel shroud on. This “pull-pull” arrangement is said to keep things aligned during firing so there is less “barrel whip” or other harmonic movement to affect the bullets path as it travels down the bore and out. The barrel arrangement is also attached to a sturdy frame, which is also said to keep things rigid when its fired...
There is more why DW revolvers are so accurate. To make sure that barrel wouldn't unscrew, manufacturers are making tight fit between frame threaded hole and barrel threaded shank. As a consequence, almost all revolvers suffer from constricted barrel in threaded area. Taylor Throating eliminates noted problem, see https://www.angelfire.com/ga/alphaprecision/revolveraccuracy.html . Fire lapping is another method to eliminate barrel constriction. DW revolvers do not have such problem because of the sliding fit threads.

the DW is a BIG pistol. Every time I've gotten a long-barreled pistol, it's fun for about 5 minutes, and then I look for ways to unload it...
Because of the weight I am selling Ruger Redhawk, but keep Bisleys. For the same reason, as soon as I purchase a nice 6" Ruger Security Six, 6" S&W 686 will be for sale

Yeah, I believe some Rugers were known for barrel constriction issues. DW’s, with their threaded barrels allowing for easy removal, certainly don’t have that issue.

Stay safe.

What Redhawk are you selling? A .41?
Sorry, selling 44 Magnum Redhawk. And, I am not in USA.

Talking about 41 Magnum, I am still kicking myself for selling blue 7.5" Bisley. Perfect caliber in perfect revolver, especially with this bullet, see why I came to this conclusion https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...un-hunting-another-view.903836/#post-12255542 .

Just purchased mold for GC version. Hoping to have 41 Bisley again, but with fluted cylinder and steel ejector housing.
