I've played Americas Army since the game came out. I think it's one of the best squad FPS's out there and has a very good level of realism. Battlefield is more arcady and based more around the vehicles and large wide open maps. Two totally different games and both good.
I'm a big fan of the SAW in Americas Army.

I agree with 762x51. They are both really good games of a different nature.
The thing I don't like about AA is that everyone looks so similar I end up sohooting my teammates more often then not.
DC is totally different...I am still trying to learn how to fly the helicopters well enough for combat...there is a definate learning curve there.

AA is really good. The only thing I don't like about it is that some players play it entirely too much. It's not necessarily that they're better because of it, although it's often the case, it's that they have every corner, cover, door, edge, etc memorized of every map. When a new patch changes the map, many of these types get slaughtered until they memorize the new version (Bridge SE comes to mind). You can't beat the price, though.

Its best to practice flying the helicopter or the airplane offline, the mouse is good for aiming but the joystick is good for low ground flying and dog fighting and such. When you are flying the ac-130 or the blackhawk, press the trigger button so you can see what your teammates can shoot.

I used to be the pilot whenever a friend and i did Midway. He got hundreds of kills per game just by sinking the japanese/iraqi landing boats.
I used to be one hell of a pilot too, until they changed stuff in the .30 release.

Im going to try and see if i can get a friend to run a special {THR} server for us. He works for the company that operates the HOMELAN servers and sometimes use there stuff on the off hours. I think a THR clan would be awesome. Im going to change my name in D/C to {THR} Paniolo808 ......look for me, im always happy to supply a good *ss whopping!

A trip for 2 into the most beautiful back country youve ever seen. Along with that trip a chance to shoot some good size wild boars and maybe even some stupid dogs in my pasture that seem to like harassing my cows this time of year. Also with that grand prize you will recieve unlimited ice cold beer and wide assortment of Poke' (raw fish with onions, shoyu,sesame,green onions, with hot mustard and soy sauce). All served out of the back of a Dodge pickup, although you may have to fight off my border collie for the food. BTW this offer is good to most all of you on this board. I am what you call "lurker" being as how i dont know much about firearms except that i like to shoot and i like to hunt and being able to protect myself, my family and my animals. Hopefully that is enough of a prize. If not then when i see you on a D/C server i promise not to OWN you!

I prefer DoD myself. Better weapons, both as far as realism and models. I prefer the slow/fast pace alternations and I also like that the rifles aren't totally crap.
Battlefield, even with the so called realism mods, reminds me too much of Counter Strike. A pseudo-realism mixed with an action game.

Heads up for everyone, I was shown a bad map exploit for Omaha Beach by another player who had just discovered it. I've also witnessed at least three others using it.
The exploit allows people to get underneath the left (west) bunker in the German trenchline. Once there, you are both invisible (as long as you crouch - if you stand you are visible and vulnerable from the waist up) invulnerable to rifles, grenades and bazookas but you can attack with all of these weapons right through the walls of the bunker with no problem.
It is particularly bad since you can dominate that whole section of trenchline along the front of the wall, the trench entrance to the left, and the beach below.
The only effective counter I've discovered for it is to shell the bunker with defguns or the destroyer. This kills the player using the exploit regardless. Tank shells seem to have a minor effect but since they can access ammo and medical from their hidey-hole, it isn't effective.
I haven't been able to test it; but I believe you can also expack them out. Trouble is that it is real difficult to get close enough to do it and live. If you approach from the barb wire on top of the trench behind the bunkers there is a blind spot where the exploiter can't see you. This should get you close enough to toss some expacks against the wall and they should work through it.

You can't use expacks - they are worthless. The only thing that works is the main tank gun (but you have to hit fairly close for it to be effective) and the artillery (defguns, destroyer guns).

In desert combat, if you put the portable mortar on the ground when you are looking up and the terrian is lower than the ground you can go underground.
Well, I finally decided to take a break for soldier of fortune 2, and picked up battlefield 1942 yesterday. My SOF2 clan said that they will be moving to battlefield with me.......... so now I got two great on-line games to play.
I'm still getting use to the game, but let me know what servers you all play at and I'll try and meet up with you in some games. I usually get on-line about 10 or 11 pm eastern time. My BF1942 ScreenName is :

I havent played this yet. I will have to look into it now. I am thouroughly addicted to MOHAA(Medal of Honor Allied Assault), but dont like the gamespy crap. I am also addicted to JKII-JO, and TFC. I dont think I will ever get over the TFC addiction. I am "Your Maker" on TFC, holler if anyone sees me. I will have to add the [THR] to my name as well.

To filter for Desert Combat servers, type "Desert" into the filter field at the top of the list of sites... then hit Enter and the list will refresh with only Desert Combat servers. Make sure you have Battlefield 1.4 update and the 0.38 Desert Combat mod installed, and look for me ... I'm:

Desert or dc and under players put in 0 to filter out empty servers and join a server almost full and has a low ping for little or no lag servers.
