THR, legal assistance needed

Why don't you move for dismissal? It would seem to me that your client's being denied due process. Exactly what's the CDPA's excuse for having to assign yet another different deputy? Is one to conclude that no one in her office is competent enough to handle so simple a case? ;)

Simple? Yeah, right, like I would get a simple case. I have offered to make it simple for them: I enter an appearance, they dismiss--nice and simple.:p

So, Prosecutor #4 calls me while I'm driving back from Crawfordsville today, I start right in on him about the pistol, the lack of evidence, about how this was just like the Arson (he was second chair on the Arson) in May.

"Kirk, wait, Kirk, no, just a minute, Kirk, we're dismissing"

:D

Thanks, THR. You've helped me win another one.

(In case anyone asks, CDPA=Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, the XO of the office).

Old, I hate to break it to you, but I did this one pursuant to my PD contract. You have to bill the county, ...

Oh Darn!!! :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

That's always the way it is... I ain't never going to get rich... :D

Great job. Nice to see a lawyer that works hard.

Good job. I drive down Tippecanoe several times a week. Good to know there's a county named after my street:neener:

Well done, El Tejon.

Thanks to my hyper-developed aversion to both police abuse and prosecutorial overreaching, it warms the cockles of my heart to see a phony case blown out of the water.

So the chief deputy grand poobah had to assign an assistant to figure out they didn't have a case? Disgraceful. But not unexpected, and wryly amusing.

Hey, how come this thread didn't get closed, like all of the other Legal/Political threads of late?

Thanks for the follow-up, El T. And well done. Good ending to a very interesting thread.

because this one has been around for a while....before L/P was closed.

Yes, but it had 18 posts, just yesterday.

This thread was General, not L&P.

True, but I have watched a number of L&P-type threads that were not in the L&P forum get shut down over the last week or two.

I am not complaining, or asking for this thread to be closed. Quite the contrary! I am just making an observation, that this one didn't get closed (yet), but many others like it have.

I know this is a privately run forum, and I respect the owners' right to close whatever threads (or forums) they wish. All I would like to say is that out of all of the things we gun owners need to discuss openly, legal and political issues are at or near the top of the list. So in that respect, the L&P forum was providing a tremendous service.

Congratulations on your upcoming anniversary, Kel: in another week you'll have been a member of this forum for a whole two months. :)

Hey, thank you!

Everyone here is so nice...

Fortunately, I have not been here long enough to become cynical, and just assume that your congrats were back-handed, I actually had to think about it for a while.

And hopefully after I have 3+ years of membership and 1,000+ posts (assuming I stick around that long, or don't get asked to leave), I still won't be so cynical as to assume that someone's points are worthless just because they are a newbie. Because we're all about taking the high road here, right?

Ok… I’ll give it a shot. Many threads have “legal” implications. “What does it take to get an NFA weapon?” “Can I do ‘x’ to my SKS?”, “Is there a ban on selling this secret squirrel ammo to the public?” The list goes on. These tend to be a corollary to relatively narrow national laws or (in the case of this thread) tangentially referring to local laws. While they have some Legal implications, the focus of these threads is NOT to debate the validity of such laws.

Had this thread turned into an “OH YEAH!!! Well the constitution makes no distinctions about serial numbers so that guy needs to be let free!!!” pity party about the shameful state or second amendment rights in the US, it would be closed for being OT for this sub-forum.

Mods, that close enough?

I’ll leave it to the Mods to address the Non-High-Roadiness and On-Topicness of this and other threads.
