what is the Thread size for 1911 grip screws. i bought new bushings and screws but the screws dont go in far enough into the bushings on two of them so i think i need to tap those bushings.

thanks

Wrong!

Hi, Jaybar and Stealthmode,

Sorry, Jaybar, but that advice is wrong. The standard stock screws for the M1911 are .150"x50. The 10x48 tap is way too big (.193") and wrong pitch to boot. It would really mess up the bushings. The standard bushing screw is .236"x60, but there are oversize taps and bushings for .255"x60 for use when the frame threads are stripped.

Stealthmode, it would be a lot cheaper to simply buy some new bushings from Brownells (set of 4 is $7.15) than to buy a tap at $30 to save the ones you have.

Wrong is right - Really wrong !!!

Thanks Jim Keenan for catching my blatant idiocy. The 10-48 is the tap size for Para-Ordnance grip screws NOT the 1911. Shot that one off from memory instead of checking the books. They say that the second thing to go is the memory - can't remember what the first thing was. My apologies stealthmode - hope you didn't act on errant advice!!

No problem, I hope.

There is an old joke that you know you are getting old when you remember the face but not the name - and you are looking in a mirror. I think I am about to that stage.
