I am considering buying a Rossi single shot in 7.62x39 (model R762MBS) and thread it for my 30 cal suppressor in 5/8x24. The barrel is 18 1/2" long. I am pretty sure the OD at the muzzle won't be thick enough and will have to cut the barrel. If anyone here has ever tried it, can you tell me how short will I have to cut it?

I am trying to avoid SBR-ing it, and no, I do not want to permanently attach the suppresor.

Are the Rossi's compatible with the NEF and H&R's?

I looked at the Rossi website and the only 7.62x39 they listed was a 23" barrel with what looked like a thin sporter barrel that appeared to have a .51" diameter muzzle. The barrel is very slim so it looks as if cutting it down to even 16" is not going to gain you much. To put 5/8-24 threads on it will require that an adaptor be attached to the muzzle, easy enough for anyone with a lathe. Sorry I can't help more.

I would cut it down to 16.25" if I had this rifle. I use TC contenders and Encores which are easy to chop down, but are unfortunately, more expensive and only more accurate than the other single shots when used with expensive custom barrels.

Actually it is like putting a muffler on an 89 Caprice. I have not spent any more than $50 plus tax on my silencers. :)

I saw a used H&R Handi Rifle at Gander in 7.62x39mm and had the same idea. I look forward to hearing the results.

A few days after I started dreaming this up, I ran into a guy at the shooting range who did exactly the same thing I had in mind but with the .223 Rem version and attached a QD suppressor of his own making (claimed to be a FFL3/SOT7). He even put a EOtech on it. So what will that make it a what, a chromed muffler and chromed wheels on a '89 Caprice? :)

That's what encouraged me to start this thread. It actually looked good. Rated ~ 8 out of 10 in the tacticool scale, for those who care about such things. Although looks don't hurt, I am more concerned about the actual results...
