Update

Hey all,

Just wanted to let everyone know whats going on. The drawing was held yesterday on campus and thankfully, both winners that were drawn were deserving donaters to the cause. The young lady who won the AK actually declined to accept it and insisted we give it to a gentleman who (unknownst to her at the time) was our 2nd place winner. Our 2nd place winner was actually our faculty media advisor for the Observer and he in turn bought tickets for a local hunter friend of his. This gentleman is only intersted in the Marlin .22 rifle and asked that we defer the AK to the state legislator I mentioned earlier. Fortune smiled upon us and the end result has been very pleasing.

Now the obvious question is: what to raffle off next time and where to get it cheap?

I suggest, to really make a statement, see what kind of deal you might be able to strike with Ronnie Barrett.

Raffle a .50, to really make a statement.

I think you pretty much topped out with the evil assault weapon. Nice touch, BTW.

Now since gun control is for the "chilren", why not raffle off a firearm for a child?

Henry Repeating Arms makes some beautiful rifles. A few other manufacturers make rifles especially designed for the young (like 7 year old or so) shooter.

After making a pretty bold statement about the BOR and 2A in general, I think we might start taking the next step towards more education among our own demographics here at Clemson and try to work with local NRA instructors and CWP classes and recruit people to attend them at perhaps some discounted rate. That and perhaps just organize all gun owners slash students and organize monthly or semesterly trips to a local range (set up in advance so we have it all to ourselves) and where we can invite students or community members who have never shot guns before to try it out in a safe and educational environment for free.

Any other suggestions for events on or around campus that we could do in support of the BOR and education of the populace about it?

Clemson's Air Rifle Team was national champ last year. Maybe we can get them involved with safety training.

From June 30, 2005...

CLEMSON’S AIR RIFLE CLUB TEAM IS NATIONAL CHAMP

CLEMSON — Clemson University’s air rifle club team has hit its mark –– the team is the number one collegiate club team in the nation.

Clemson hosted the Southeast sectional air rifle competition during spring semester. After all the scores from sectionals around the nation were compiled by the National Rifle Association, the Clemson team was notified that it was ranked number one, said club adviser and coach John Cummings.

Students who competed on the national team were team captain and club president Lyndsey Hall, a senior graphic communications major from Abbeville; Brian Holland, a senior computer engineering major from North Augusta; John Campbell, a senior electrical engineering major from Central; Benjamin Sears, a senior majoring in human resource development from Aiken; and Christy Mills, a senior sociology major from Blue Ridge.

Hall was ranked the number two shooter in the nation, with Holland ranking third, Sears ranking seventh and Campbell coming in 11th.

“We were really excited to get the news, especially because this was the last year for a lot of people on the team,” said Hall. “We’ve been working hard to get better. And we’re more than a team –– we’re a big group of friends.”

Clemson has hosted the Southeast sectional air rifle competition for more than 10 years. The team ranked second for the past two years and has never ranked lower than seventh in the nation, said Cummings

Sportcat beat me to it.

I, too, was about to suggest getting Clemson's high-profile collegiate club rifle team involved here.

TigerEhre, you've got natural allies already established on campus.

Davis said The Observer modeled its drawing after a successful raffle at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. That school's conservative political journal, The Orange and Blue Observer, held a similar raffle, which was so successful that they now hold one once a month, despite the protest of a significant number of students and state officials.

That was a good day :neener:

The rifle ended up going to a LEO in one of the neighboring towns I think.
The OBO has been auctioning off a few firearms a year. Great fun.
