Ive got a pre-ban Colt A2 HBAR Sporter lower. The mag well is so tight that it will only accept about 1/2 of my magazines. I have other lowers of other manufacture and have no issue with any of my magazines. Has anyone else run in to a similar issue with a lower?

Im hoping to find a gunsmith who could take a look and possibly mill the interior walls of the mag well. Would that be something an average gunsmith would tackle?

It this was a post-ban lower Id toss it and get another. But its my only pre-ban and I dont want to be keeping track of what mags fit what AR when something goes bump in the night.

Any help much appreciated.

I'm thinking it's the mags and not the mag well that is the problem.
Are they all the same manufacturer? Are the tight ones older than the loose ones? Have the tight ones been sitting loaded for a long time and are bulged?

Rifle and mags parkerized???

Is the inside of the magwell parkerized?? Are your mags that don't fit parkerized?
In the sandbox when brand new m4s were issued we had the same problem.
a scott brite pad (green srubbing pad) and some elbow grease solved all problems. This goes for both the mag well and magazines with heavy parkerizing finish.
We also had the same problem with the New M9 mags they issued us. Parkerizing is like sprayed on sand paper, No way for a mag to drop out if it is friction fitted in.

Just my experiance.....:)

It would be almost unheard of for a Colt AR-15 lower to be too tight.

They have to pass the same mil-spec guaging and measuring & function testing that the companies M-4's and M-16's have to pass.

I'd say it almost has to be the magazines.

Might also have something to do with the mag release being screwed in too far, or not far enough, by a "tinkerer" who messed with it after it left the factory.
