Hey all,

Quick question/advice. I have a Colt Government for which the life of me can't get the grip screw bushing out of the frame. Seems my other 1911s the grips screw bushing comes out when I don't want it to, but this one on my S80 Colt wont come out when I need it to.

I stripped the grip screw bushing, and was told by the local smith that just unscrewing it with a flathead screwdriver would work. I looked on the underside (inside the frame) and the GS bushing doesn't look like it'll just unscrew.

Any advice? TIA!

They are probably staked. You'll need a bushing driver to get them out without totally destroying them and possibly stripping the holes. I've got one you can use if you let me know when you'll be at TFL next.

Thanks Mark

I'll have to look into getting a bushing driver eventually too. I just didn't know what tool was needed to use to get that bushing out.

I'll let you know about possibly borrowing it, I appreciate it.

If you can't see where they are staked in place someone may have applied a thread locker to them. If so then a little acetone should free them.

If they're not staked use the acetone and then try to unscrew by first going clockwise and then snapping counterclockwise quickly
