My 10/22 magazines are starting to show their age, and I was wondering if tightening the octagonal hex screw an extra notch or two would result in feeding issues. I believe the standard amount of corners to rotate "through" is 8.

Has anyone tried this and experienced any negative effects?

It shouldn't, as long as you can still get 10 rounds in it.

Have you dissembled the mags and made sure they are not just all gunked up inside with bullet lube and powder fouling??

I've disassembled and cleaned them several times, it just feels as though the spring has lost tension over time. The follower doesn't seem to have the resistance that it used to, and it's a rainy day here, so I was looking for a mini-project.

In class we were told 1 and 1/4 turns or so. Sometimes it is 1 and sometimes it is more, tighten them 'til they work and if that doesn't fix it there is probably something wrong.
